Hi! I'm David O'Neil. This video is for you who have wondered if there is more, or less,
to religion than you were told as a child. By the end of this video you will start to
see some of the forgotten thoughts of our ancient priestly scientists, as they began
moving away from paganism towards monotheism, about three-thousand years ago. Specifically,
you will see some of their astronomic endeavors they encoded in a certain biblical myth.
Before I begin, some of you may be wondering about my qualifications, and what drove me
to these investigations. I graduated college as a mechanical engineer,
and I've worked as a designer, supervisor, and information organizer, among other tasks
throughout the years. I even taught myself computer programming, and wrote music software.
But my biggest claim to fame is tenacity. The research behind this video has taken more
than eighteen years to complete and document in my book, Laughing at the Devil: One Man's
Religious Discoveries! I was driven to these investigations because
of events in my childhood. When I was six, Mom grew disgusted with my father, and ran
away with my sisters and me to a fundamentalist Catholic cult in Idaho. Dad found us, got
us back, and the following years were filled with turmoil, during which my parents went
through a messy divorce, and I was told Dad was the son of Satan. When the dust settled
I was left with lots of questions. If you'd like to see the clues which led which
led to my new understandings, please read Laughing at the Devil. It contains a much
fuller picture. This video focuses on my discoveries. To begin, many people are currently taken
with the fact that the Mayans were astronomically advanced two-thousand years ago. But they've
forgotten that our Babylonian and Sumerian ancestors reached that level of astronomic
thought three-thousand years earlier. Back then counting was the norm, and one of
the things they counted is still testified to by the 'sixty,' on our watches, and in
our angular measurement systems. Every twenty years the two slowest visible wanderers, Jupiter
and Saturn, come together in the sky in an event called a conjunction. Every third meeting
of these two objects occurs near the same point on the ecliptic as the one sixty years
earlier. The ecliptic is the term for the sun's path through the sky, and it's the same
area in which the zodiac is located. As an example, in 2000 they came together
on the border of Aries and Taurus.
In 2020 they'll be in Capricorn.
2040 will find them in Virgo.
And in 2060 they'll be about nine degrees away from their original Taurus/Aries meeting
If these are plotted on the zodiac, a rough triangle appears.
Some of you know that back then 'sixty' profoundly influenced society: it became the basis of
the Babylonian and Sumerian counting systems in approximately 3200 BC. Basically, the 'gods'
presented themselves to the priests in that number, and 'sixty' had many qualities that
made it excellent for performing mathematical calculations. The scholarship behind my claims
is presented in my book. Some things can only be guessed at, and one
of them is why do the Canaanite priests seem to be the first ones to delve deeply into
this conjunction cycle, almost 2000 years later? One possibility is they grew tired
of their neighbors, and their neighbors' 'gods.' Another is they wanted to investigate the
'gods' more deeply for themselves, in order to insure they were leading their lives correctly.
Back then they were pagans, and such could have been the case.
Anyway, they did delve deeper. The biblical Samson story testifies to both their creativity
and their tenacity. They invented this master tale as a way to understand their astronomic
studies, specifically the sixty-year Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions between 1416 to 980 BC.
Such a bold claim needs at least a little introduction before I go further.
One of the items that says there is more to this story than meets the eye is his name:
Samson means 'man of Shamash,' or 'little Shamash,' depending upon which scholar you
ask. Shamash has been associated with both the sun and Saturn throughout the ages. This
indicates pagan roots, not monotheistic ones. Another is that before 200 BC, the Babylonian
Talmud records Samson's shoulders being 'sixty' cubits wide, which is approximately ninety
feet. This is preposterous by earthly standards, unless you believe in a literal reading of
the Bible. One more thing to keep in mind, which we will
see as we progress, is that because of our ancient story-telling tradition, our earliest
scientific endeavors were cast in mythical terms. The biblical Samson story is probably
the greatest example of this in existence. To see even more items which tie this story
to the night skies, please read Laughing at the Devil. In it, you will also see the items
which tie the biblical strongman to the planet Mars.
To give a brief insight into this myth's construction, in the first part Samson was said to rip a
lion in half, come back later, and get honey out of its carcass. Simply stated, this is
just a reference to the actions of the red planet during the 1416 BC Jupiter/Saturn conjunction.
Right after they met, the red wanderer ripped through Leo, the celestial lion.
From our ancestor's perspective, the heavenly beast then dropped to its 'grave' on the sunset
horizon, leaving our hero triumphant.
Our early observers were trying to make sense
of all these actions, and noted 'Samson's return' two years later. See that little cluster
of stars in Cancer I've highlighted? They have been called 'the beehive' since antiquity.
The Hebraic priests pictured Samson reaching out and getting honey from this 'beehive'
at the end of his backward movement, which we now call retrograde motion, but they recorded
as 'turneth aside.' Judges, chapter 15 records events sixty years
later. In them the most memorable event was Mars retrograding near the Hyades while Jupiter
and Saturn were close by. The Babylonian term for the Hyades is 'The Jawbone.'
In the biblical language Samson was said to kill a thousand men using the
jawbone of an ***, which shows the importance of these celestial events to
our early investigators.
Judges, chapter 16 testifies to the tenacity of the Canaanite/Israelite priests. I won't
give away any of the celestial details here, except to say that every sixty-year Jupiter/Saturn
conjunction until 980 BC was documented, with a twenty-year adjustment for reasons I reveal
in my book. Basically, once you know how to read it, the Samson story is an incredibly
creative account of celestial events witnessed throughout multiple generations.
The fact that the story is constructed around Delilah's famous 'question' indicates the
priests had a riddle of their own they were trying to answer: what exactly does it take
to 'kill' a celestial entity? I won't give away that answer either, except to say they
did find one, which testifies to a long-forgotten understanding of the night skies.
When these fell into place much more began to make sense than just the astronomic backbone
I've touched upon here. A whole swath of forgotten thinking started to appear, which has been
whitewashed out by the work of religious institutions in the intervening millennia. I knew these
were the thoughts which are at the root of science's current conceptions, and they explain
why 'sixty' was so important to our ancestors that it is still found on our watches and
in our angular measurement systems. Another aspect which became clearer is the
thoughts which pushed the Canaanites away from paganism and remolded them into one of
the first monotheistic societies in that area of the world. The move away from the old beliefs
was so strong they even changed their name! If you are drawn to a deeper understanding
of my discoveries for yourself, everything I've touched upon here, and more, is documented
in my book, Laughing at the Devil: One Man's Religious Discoveries. You may purchase a
copy through its website, at laughingatthedevil.com.
Deeper investigation indicates the priests
were trying to improve their world with their 'god' studies. I like to think my discoveries
will be helpful as we improve our own world, by delving into the roots of our own beliefs,
and seeing their sources more clearly. I hope you've enjoyed this journey into our
forgotten history. Thank you for watching!
