My name is Imran Bashir, I'm from Pakistan and I have lived here the last 30 years.
>> Soulaima: 30 years?
Yes. And, my mother, my wife and three children, we all live here together, we don't have family members that live in Pakistan.
She came to Denmark nearly 2 and a half years ago and we have applied for a residency permit
from the Danish embassy in Islamabad but they said we should apply for the permit in Denmark
so the Danish embassy only gave us a three month VISA.Now we have applied for an additional VISA and we have also spoken to the lawyer
but it is getting rejected.
>> Soulaima: What were the reasons for rejecting it?
No reason.
>> Soulaima: No reason! And your mother is 90 years old?
She is nearly 86.
>> Soulaima: 86? Lovely! And there's no one to go with her?
No, we're 5 siblings and we all live abroad
>> Soulaima: And your mother can't take care of herself when she arrives in Pakistan?
She's paralyzed here on her left side
She can't feed herself. She can't go to the bathroom by herself, she can't walk as much as 2 meters.
We always have to help her. How is she going to manage alone in Pakistan? It's a problem.
>> Soulaima: So you would like to get permission to have her here with you?
Yes, very much because she can't manage alone. That's the biggest problem we have. Because we all live abroad.
>> Soulaima: So, if you went with her to Pakistan, that would mean you would have to close your business.
Completely! >> Soulaima: Completely?
My economy would be totally stopped. I've got three children and a wife
We have lots of expenses.
>> Soulaima: And you have Danish citizenship?
Yes.
>> Soulaima: So, someone needs to explain to me how something like this can happen in Denmark. There are definitely lots of paragraphs and rules that I do not understand. I just don't understand how we in Denmark can bring ourselves to put human beings in this position. We have a man who has lived in Denmark for 30 years and is a Danish citizen who can't get permission for his mother to stay in Denmark. She is paralyzed and she is old. I would really like to start a debate about how we can live with this. I don't understand it, in any case. If you see this I would really like you to react, and explains what is happening here in Denmark right now and how we can bring ourselves to do this? Thank you.
