it was of horrific week in afghanistan twenty people were were killed including
eleven children in the u_s_ and nato airstrike on saturday
six women were also wounded
on the same day six americans including three u_s_ soldiers died in violent
attacks as well
also female foreign service officer with the u_s_
state department an employee with the u_s_ defense department died in a
suicide bombing
ins this others
was aboard province during a trip to donate books to afghan students
it's been one of the bloodiest weeks on the record in the near twelve year war
and on wednesday insurgents ambushed a court house
in was considered the relatively safe western
uh... area of afghanistan
more than forty six people were killed in that attack
uh... basically to summarize here what's been happening in recent weeks is that
there's been a tremendous amount of violence
more than usual
and it
there's really no indication that it's gonna stop anytime soon
so this
is
the fundamental paradox
of the war in afghanistan
when we have carrie's of relatively few fights and relatively low violence
uh... the president and the generals and of saying well we have to stay there
because we have to keep the peace
and then that whenever we have
uh... are relatively
large amount of violence and a lot of death like what's happening the past
week they say well look we need to stay there in order to get the situation back
under control
so if we have to stay there when it's bad
and if we have to stay there when it's good
don't you realize that that means we just have to stay there indefinitely
and then general martin dempsey
the top u_s_ military officer in afghanistan
said something very telling when he was est if he thought that some parts of
afghanistan will be contested by the taliban in the year twenty fifteen
he said quote
yes of course there will be in if we
we're having this conversation ten years from now i suspect they would still be
contested areas
we have a history of afghanistan suggests
that there will always be contested areas
do you realize what he's saying they're that's a tremendous admission
he's saying look no matter what we do
the taliban exist
and people of hate us organ exist analy jason they might actually end up getting
power
so the logical response all these is wire we even there
if no matter what no seriously think about this it no matter what
there's always been any it's held in those in the people in paid as and
they're gonna
uh... their fingers on the levers of power in afghanistan
them were we doing there why would we still have time
the definition of winning the war on terror would be so that we made a boat
minimize the taliban and minimize al-qaeda
and marginalize them in
have a government in afghanistan or iraq
that is uh... not affiliated with those extreme groups right
but according to our own generals admission
they say yeah well in probably going to be a
taliban then people here from out of water than any of our
so then why we most six trillion dollars of our hard earned tax payer dollars
fighting over there
that's on the most frustrating part of all this
because
oftentimes or efforts
or literally counterproductive solo i mean by that
we do what we ended up doing
but
on saturday for example where
twenty we killed twenty people eleven of them were children
you think that doesn't have a negative consequences associated with it
you don't think
that makes uh... regular afghani
civilians more likely
tha
side with the taliban ek even if they're not extremist because the taliban
at the creator after they were the taliban then inspection goes let me
think that americans a list of eleven-year kids
you're telling me you wanna side we've been no sign with boss will protect you
where on your side
when we have strikes and we have
uh... certain instances where we kill the wrong people
were only
creating the worst problem
and if you think there's a disk and jack sure this is just anecdotal
there's been studies done that we've talked about on the show before
that's a
since we've waged war on terror
the number of terrorist has actually increased
we are creating more terrorist because were waging the war on terror so
incredibly sloppy and worked on so many civilians
that isn't it
or rock ruling technique now
where all the taliban al qaeda and other groups like that that there was a well
up cupid
detail by the americans or you could join us
nominate rise me absolutely nuts and of course uh... the fact that i keep coming
back to because it just mind blowing in nobody knows it is that as of today
we have between sixty six thousand sixty eight thousand troops afghanistan right
and you wonder how many members of al qaeda there aren't afghanistan
between fifty and a hundred
so we need sixty eight thousand used to fight between fifty and a hundred guides
who by the way are using weapons
that were given to them back
from the mujahadeen
back in the nineteen eighties
we need sixty eight thousand
guys to fight back
