Niimi station is a two-story wooden building with tiled gable roofs.
There are some shops such as luncher around the station, but central Niimi city is about 1km southeast far from here across the Kumatani River.
Various art objects were set in front of the station when town redemarcation project were completed.
These are statue of Yusei, a manor administrator in Niimi, and his caretaker Tamagaki.
A letter written by Tamagki was designated as a national treasure in 1997 as precious autograph letter of female farmer in the Middle Ages.
These statues in the center of the rotary are modeled after Goshinkou-buki-gyouretsu (feudal lord's procession) with a 300 year history that has been appointed as a significant intangible folk cultural asset of Japan.
Similar to Tsuyama station, there is a public lavatory on the right of the station.
As an important station on the Hakubi line, there is a roomy space in the station.
However, there has been no kiosks but automatic vending machines since kiosk was closed in 2008.
Many photos of steam locomotive and railroad carriage running on the Hakubi line are exhibited on the wall.
These two automatic ticket machine sell ticket for non-reserved seat of limited express train YAKUMO running on the Hakubi line.
There is a small waiting room with door on the left side of the station.
The ticket office opens between 5:00 and 23:00.
On the major railway Hakubi line, the number of trains every day are 31 for Kurashiki and Okayama and 24 for Yonago and Izumoshi.
On the other hand, there are 8 trains (7 on holiday) on the Kishin line and only 6 trains (5 on holiday) on the Geibi line.
Niimi station has 2 platforms with 4 tracks. The platform No.1 is Geibi line for Bingo-Ochiai, No.2 is Kishin line for Tsuyama, No.3 is Hakubi line for Okayama, and No.4 is Hakubi line for Yonago.
Each platform is connected by the underpass.
Old rails are used to the pillars on the platform roof.
The two tracks between the platform No.2 and 3 are used for freight trains or shunt of trains.
The milepost at the end of the platform No.1 and 2 marks that here is 158km from Himeji station on the Kishin line.
The length of platform and roof on the No.1 and 2 is much shorter than No.3 and 4 on the major railway Hakubi line.
