Food: it makes the world go 'round. We need it to thrive and we need it to survive. It
is comfort when you are upset, it is nourishment to keep your body going. But most of all,
it is delicious when you are hungry. At UNO there is no shortage of food options and the
convenience as well as the quality of the food here is well worth it. Believe me when
I say that fast food and takeout from restaurants is drain on the old wallet. Trust me, I know,
I'm a college student. In this video, I'm going to show you all of the food options
you'd have as a Privateer here at ol' UNO. First off on our list of different dining
options is Freshens. Freshens is located in the Rec Center and it's a smoothie and yogurt
bar. It has a variety of different smoothies and it also has chocolate and vanilla yogurt
with your choice of toppings. When you're done working out or you want to grab a cold
drink, go to Freshens. I would relate it to being much akin to something like TCBY or
PinkBerry. I worked at TCBY, so trust me. Let's get a perspective from a student here
on campus. Take it away...Hello, folks, my name's Carey Bailey and I'm a freshman here
at UNO. And I'm going to take you on a brief tour of the campus dining around here, and
the first stop is Freshens at the Rec Center for a smoothie. Uh, yeah, so let's get it
on. (Cameron): Do you like smoothies? (Carey): I love them. I adore them. (Cameron): How
much? (Carey): This much! (Cameron): What are you getting? (Carey): Jamaican Jammer
with, uh, what's is got in it? Fat free yogurt, strawberries, bananas, and a booster of some
sort. So, let's do it. I feel like I say that way too many times...let's do it.
I'm going to have the Jamaican Jammer. (aside): Regular or large? (Carey): Regular, that's fine.
Do what I'm gonna do. (slurping) (laughs)
Oh yeah, delightful. (Cameron): Would you get another? (Carey): Yes, I would.
(Cameron): So, drink that up. We'll get back for lunch.
It should also be mentioned here at UNO that they take a meal plan, declining balance, and even old stone cold cash. Whatever
your preference, they'll take it all. I personally have a meal plan and I use it on a weekly
basis. Next up there is The Cove, a quaint little collection of restaurants all tucked
inside a wonderful little building with a large room to eat in, as well as an outside
deck of sorts set up with tables, chairs, and adorned with a fountain to boot. Inside
The Cove there's a terrific little place called Burger Studio where you create your own burger
on a computer screen and the chef's cook it up right there for you. Fancy. Want bacon?
Yeah! Want avacado? Why not?! They might even put peanut butter on it. I don't know. But
what I do know is that they have a lot of options, and that's pretty cool! Then there's
a bar and lounge called the Sandbar. It has awesome food and it is often home to jazz
shows and events on the stage in the front of all the dining tables. Let's ask a student
what she thinks about The Sandbar. (Cameron): So you always come here? (student): Yeah,
pretty much. Finally, there's a Popeyes fried chicken. What else needs to be said? Fried
chicken, warm mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, anything you could possibly want. They
even have buttered biscuits. You know the game. Everyone loves Popeyes! Now let's get
back in touch with our man in the field, Carey Bailey. While Carey and I had originally hoped
to create our own burgers at Burger Studio, it was unfortunately closed. Much to our dismay,
and then much to our happiness, we realized The Sandbar was right there. So we trekked
on over to The Sandbar and got an equally as delicious meal. Now, let's go to Carey
and see what he has to say. Carey. (Carey): Okay, so we're going to The Cove for lunch. Be there
or be square, everything single day for the rest of your life.
Oooohhh!
(Cameron): Anything striking you right now? (Carey): They all seem so delicious, but I think I'm going to go with The Plunge.
(Cameron): What's The Plunge? (Carey): Uh, it's a burger with American, cheddar, pepper jack cheese.
Uh, and mozzarella cheese. So it's got a lot of cheeses on it. I like cheese. So, yeah...
(aside): Yeah, yeah, just the sandwich. For here.
(Cameron): Okay, have you ever had this burger before? (Carey): I have not. (Cameron): Do you think it will be good? (Carey): I think so.
I've heard good things.
(Cameron): What is this monstrosity called again? (Carey): Uh, The Plunge burger. Yeah.
(Cameron): You about to start eating it? (Carey): I'm about to start eating it, yes sir. (Cameron): Give me your first thought impressions.
(Cameron): Alright, Carey, you go ahead and take this thing. (Carey): I'm taking it. I'm going in. (Cameron): Take it.
Mmmmm! (Cameron): Is it good? (Carey): That's good. That's real good.
Even the lettuce is good!
(Cameron): Alright, so overall, how's the burger? Good? (Carey): Really good.
(Cameron): From 1 to 10? Be honest. (Carey): Okay, umm...a seven.
(Cameron): A seven? (Carey): It's pretty good. (Cameron): A solid seven? (Carey): Yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's good.
(Cameron): Would you get one again? (Carey): Yes, I would.
(Cameron): Sweet. Well, dinner it is, sir, but later.
Finally, there is the UC. The architecturally-based heartbeat of the UNO community.
It is home to Career & Counseling Services, the health clinic, the bookstore, everything here at this school.
But most importantly, it houses food. And lots of it. Good, hearty, old-fashioned grub just like Mama used to cook it.
First off in the UC, there's Brewed Awakening.
Looking for a cup of coffee, like Starbucks?
Me too! Who doesn't?
It's a coffee shop that looks like a Starbucks, serves Starbucks, but it isn't a Starbucks.
Classic.
They offer all of your favorite hot, cold, patented Starbucks coffee drinks, and even free wi-fi.
Brewed Awakening also serves an assortment of pastries, sodas, juices, sandwiches...all to quench your hunger.
Delish.
Next up, there's Subway.
It's a Subway. What more is there to say?
It's everything you want from a Subway but without any of the hassle of leaving school. It's just right there.
I get a buffalo chicken sandwich, and I enjoy it...quite a bit.
And I know what you're asking yourself.
And I know what you're asking yourself. How can there be a Subway without a Chick-fil-A?
It doesn't make sense.
And obviously UNO agrees.
Chick-fil-A Express is here to get you when you're down and out looking for a great chicken sandwich, nuggets, or those awesome, adorable little waffle fries. So, so good.
And finally, a cafeteria just doesn't cut it anymore.
That is what the UNO website calls the grandaddy of all its eateries, RFoC.
RFoC brings a retail-like experience in an all-you-care-to-eat environment for a fixed price at the door.
You can eat all the breakfast you want for $5.50; all the lunch and dinner you want for $6.50, plus tax.
They have all sorts of varied and interesting home-cooked meals everyday.
You might have fried chicken one day, or you'd have beans and rice the other.
Just the other day I had beef stew, mashed potatoes, and a salad.
And I know what you're thinking. That is not the salad that I ate.
I don't like ranch.
Let's go to our man Carey Bailey one final time.
Take it away, Carey.
Dinner time in the RFoC. (Cameron): What is RFoC? (Carey): What do you mean?
(Cameron): For the people that don't go here.
Oh, it's like the diner, I guess. (Cameron): The cafeteria? (Carey): The cafeteria, yeah.
(Cameron): Let's go get some food. (Carey): Yeah, let's go.
(Cameron): So what are you going with? (Carey): A grilled cheese sandwich. Woo!
(Cameron): By the way, you can get as much as you want, right? (Carey): Yeah, and come back for more and more. And more. And even more.
(laughs) It's been fun eating with you today, folks. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The life of a UNO student.
Delicious.
And there you have it.
We've seen all of the incredible dining options UNO has to offer. You've seen a student go through his breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
But most importantly, you know how you're going to keep fed when you end up at this wonderful university.
I hope this video has been as insightful for you as it has been for me to make.
Once again, I'm Cameron Dupuy, and until next time, goodbye.
