hey guys welcome back to my channel is Tonia and today I am going to show you
how to maintain your box braids because we all know there's no point in
protective styling if you're not going to care for your natural hair underneath
so today I'm going to show you how to do just that and if you're new here and you
want to learn more about beauty hair makeup lifestyle whatever make sure you
subscribe to my channel but for now let's get into the video the first thing
you want to do when caring for your box braids is to make sure your real hair is
moisturized underneath to moisturize my real hair underneath I am going to be
using just a regular leave-in conditioner you can use whichever one
you have but this is the one I'm gonna use I try to stay away from the bigger
conditioning type products because they can leave a little bit of residue so
that's why i just use the regular leave-in the more liquid forms now the
second thing I do is fill in all that moisture that I just added by a pilot
leave-in conditioner so I'm gonna follow that up with some of this Africa's best
herbal oil this is the goal I've been using this literally since middle school
like I used to give this from Dollar General for three dollars just gonna rub
this all throughout the shaft of my braids so this is going to not only
seal in the moistures that we just added but it's also going to give you
hair some shine this smells good af now that I have moisturized my hair I am
going to now move on to moisturizing my scalp
now to moisturize your scalp you can use whatever you want I see a lot of people
use this do grow stimulating growth oil and I think this works well but it does
not smell good to me you don't want it need that
as soon as you walk up and everybody's like, What's that smell? I smell trees that's that's going to
be you I don't even fool with it I don't I look for something that's moisturizing
and something that's gonna smell good and for me it is this castor oil grease
this is another og product I've been using this for ever - it definitely
keeps my hair my Scout moisturize it stops my scout from looking dry and
getting dandruff and also smells really good so I just go through and put this
on all of my parts pretty much so another thing you want to keep in mind
while you're moisturizing your scalp with whatever product you decide to use I
don't put a lot of it around my edges I just don't because with when you go to
lay your edges depending on what product you use it might turn white if you use like
a lot of oils or a heavy product it'll turn white I just wanted to warn you
about crusty edges cuz I'm nobody got time for that
speaking of edges you always want to make sure you take good care of your
edges make sure there's not a lot of tension you guys can see here like I
left mine is just out of these braids I did not you know try to *** them I
just leave them out and then I just go back in and slick them down so you can't
really tell and it looks a lot cleaner and makes your braids look a lot fresh
once your just start getting Pizzi like this right here it's it's hard just time
for you to do something about it so to lay my edges I'm gonna be using the
24-hour edge tamer I just discovered this I'm probably late to a party but it
works wonders a little bit of product here not a whole lot just dab it on its
like so and then I'm going to take this little brush and just slick them down now
some people like to get a little creative with the edges have all kind of
waves and stuff but me I'll do all that I'm just you know the goal is to get
them to lay down and that usually takes enough effort by itself I don't have
time for the wave so yeah great and athlean layer edges you know
you know you've got a tie scarf around it right because that's the only way
it's going to stay well at least if you got hair like mine that's the other way
if I'm going somewhere I'll let this sit for like ten minutes and I'll put this
on my head while I do my makeup but at night this is it this is how I taught my
hair up I applied this to keep the edges looking fresh and then I apply my my big
old giant bonnet this bonnet was only five dollas but it's definitely worth
more okay like lemme show yall it's like huge you could put a baby in here it's big
but this is just what works for me if you have any questions comments concerns
or if you find something that works even better for you feel free to leave a
comment in the down below because I'm always looking to try out something new
if you want to see how I got these braids I do have a tutorial on myself to
doing these braids it was super quick I used a different kind of hair this time
and it was just super quick so if you want to see how to do your braids I'll
put a card or something up here that's all I have for you guys today as far as
maintaining your box braids I hope you enjoyed this video and I'll see you next
time bye
