We are now on the greek island Milos! We are here to find the endangered Milos viper.
A snake species that is only found on this island and two other islands close by.
There are about 2000 vipers on this island, most of them on the west side.
So that is where we will look for them. Now I'm headed for a lake to look for lizards and terrapins.
Here we are!
Ready for an adventure!
There is activity in these bushes! They crawl with lizards!
You won't catch that one!
No. Not unless it volunteers!
Another one! Where? I see it!
We were lucky enough to find the leopard snake!
This is a shy snake, witch is difficult to find.
It certainly is one of the most beautiful snakes here, with these colors and pattern.
It is amazing to have found this animal here, where it belongs!
My friends are going to love me when I bring this to them.
I hear them! I will put this guy in my bag and go surprise them!
You haven't found anything yet?
We found some geckoes. Same as we found yesterday?
Yes, only darker. I picked one up and it climbed on me!
Don't tell the others.. I have a leopard snake in my bag!
Are you kidding? No!
Don't tell them!
Nothing yet? No! Nothing yet.
I have a leopard snake in my bag!
Are you joking? No!
Excellent!! Great job!
Wow, its the striped Milos version!!
You immediately see why these are called Europes most beautiful snakes! Yes they are stunning!
We found a cat snake!! We? You mean YOU found a cat snake!
The cat snake is named cat snake because of their vertical pupils.
Witch is typical for an animal most active at night.
This snake mainly feed on lizards.
It kills using venom, but unlike vipers witch has venom glands and hollow fangs,
these guys has something called noyes glands in their gums.
This is my kind of vacation! This is how vacations are supposed to be! It certainly is!
I have read that they seldom strike.
Look how big it is!
It is a former Daboia! Really!? Yes!
These can throw themselves forward.
Getting bit by one of these will NOT feel good!
This is awsome!
Look at that cobra necking!
It reminds me of a death adder! Yes, when you said Daboia, I think this could possibly get reclassified again some day.
It is bigger and bulkier than I pictured them to be! I agree!
The cobra necking is awsome!
This is why we came here! It certainly is!
This is our main goal, comming to this island!
This is the Milos viper! It may look like a gray, uninteresting viper, but this is europes rarest snake!
They are only found here on Milos and two other islands, here in the Cyclades.
This viper actually lay eggs!
Most vipers give birth to live young, but the Milos viper lay eggs!
Another interesting thing about the Milos viper is its tail.
The tip is yellow on its underside. This is something the viper uses to catch prey! (Caudal luring).
We have only spent two days finding this big beautiful specimen..
I didn't get bit did I? It was really close!
I'm not tempting fate any more today!
No! Was it about to swallow the bird? Yes! It sat right here, eating the bird
No! No-no-no!
Its a shame we surprised it, but what can you do..
That is incredible! To find a snake in the process of swallowing a bird! I almost stepped on it!
This is the most awesome experience I have ever had in Europe!
