In this video tutorial, I am going to show you how to make a video file size smaller
without losing quality apt for the web using HandBrake.
If you don’t have HandBrake on your computer, watch the How to Install HandBrake video tutorial
for more information about the installation process.
First, I will show you how to look at the size of a video file. Begin by opening the location where your file is saved.
Now, right-click on the video file name, and select Properties from the menu. The size is displayed in the General tab, under Size.
Let’s continue by opening HandBrake from the Desktop.
To select the video file you would like to compress, click on Source and select Open File.
Next, click the Browse button under Destination, to assign the location where you would like to save the output file,
that is your finished video.
Give it a name in the Save As Dialog box and click the Save button.
Continue on to the Output Settings. Mark the Web Optimized checkbox.
Proceed down to the tabs. Go in to the Video tab. Under Optimise Video, add a checkmark to the Use Advanced Tab instead box.
Next, go to the Audio tab. Change the Bitrate from 160 to 128.
Last, go in to the Advanced tab. Change the Reference Frames from Default 3 or 1 to 4.
Finally, click on the Start button on the menu on the top to start encoding.
Be patient, this may take a few minutes to complete.
You can see the status of the encoding on the bottom of the application.
When the output video is complete, it will say Queue Finished.
Now let’s compare sizes. If you recall, the original video file was 147 MB. The output video file is 25 MB.
