Picture this, you're walking down your high school hall,
there are lockers on your right and lockers on your left.
You go a little farther, into the student lounge.
You sit down at the tables and chairs all around the room
and you start studying.
You look to your right and there are four shiny vending machines
filled with candy and soda, everything you need to stay
awake during the day.
Now imagine what would happen if these
vending machines weren't there?
What would happen to you?
What would happen to your school?
Vending machines in schools are essential because they pay
for many student programs and make up a large amount
of the school's operating budget.
Without them, programs, atheletics,
general maintainance would be in jeopardy, as well,
the banning of junk food is an infringment of our rights
under the 9th amendment in the consititution.
According to a usatoday.com article, there are approximately
65,000 vending machines in schools, and this does not
account for candy vending machines.
A study was conducted of 339 schools from Kentucky
elementary, middle, and high schools.
Ninety-seven percent of the high schools in Kentucky
had vending machines in the school.
The average mean, almost $10,000.
What was the money used for?
Well, 22% went to supplies, such as paper, pens,
and other office materials.
Seventy percent went to pay for principals, awards, speakers,
and field trips.
