Hi guys!
Welcome to Make2 and a Sims FreePlay tutorial video for the new SimTown Market.
Just a couple things before we get started.
As always with our videos, we try to put important information or additional information in the
video description, so if there's something we forgot to say in this video or if we got
something wrong, we'll try to put it there.
The second thing is, we've put subtitles on this video, so if you're having trouble following
along with just my voice, then tap on the CC option on YouTube so you can read along
as well.
Now let's get started!
The SimTown Market is a way for you to win special prizes related to careers, and also
to win other items which you might have missed because they were limited time prizes, or
to just give you an opportunity to win some items randomly.
The SimTown Market gets unlocked by completing a Special Event in the game.
At the time of recording this video, we have 4 days left to complete the Special Event.
If you have missed the event, then you will need to wait for the next time the game developers
decide to bring it back.
The SimTown Market is attached to the career workplaces in the game.
At the time of recording this video, it's attached to the Movie Studio.
We would guess that for future events, it will probably be attached to the other career
workplaces, such as the Police Station and the Hospital.
In order to unlock the SimTown Market, you need to build the workplace where it's located,
complete the tutorial to start the career at the workplace, and also have a sim reach
Level 6 and specialize in any profession at the workplace.
Now, notice when I tap on the marketplace sign here, it says we need to have a sim reach
Level 3 in any profession.
This is actually wrong -- or maybe there was just something wrong with our game.
But we actually couldn't get the event to start until we had a sim reach Level 6 in
a career, and then specialize in a profession.
So in case you're having a problem starting the event, this might be why.
Try getting a sim to Level 6 in the career, then choose one of the specialized professions
for them.
For the Movie Studio, you can reach Level 6 by sending your sim to work at the Movie
Studio and completing shifts until they level up, or you can level up without sending them
to work by having them use a movie camera at home.
You can buy the movie camera at the Career & Hobbies Store in town.
Then go into your inventory, tap the Career & Hobbies section, then place the movie camera
and have your sim use it for 3 hours at a time.
To officially start the SimTown Market Special Event, you need to send your Level 6 specialized
sim to work.
Then tap the marketplace sign.
The game's tutorial will take you through a series of tasks to introduce you to how
it's all supposed to work.
Just tap the things it tells you to tap until the tutorial finishes.
Now, there are a few things to understand about the SimTown Market.
First, it gives you an opportunity to win several smaller prizes, as well as a brand
new big prize.
For the Movie Studio Market at the time of recording this video, the big prize is a Boom
Camera which you can use in your sims' homes.
Everyone doing the event has the opportunity to win the same big prize.
The smaller prizes, however, are random.
In one of our games, the smaller prizes were a wedding chair, some resources for the Mysterious
Island Monuments, a marble dining table, and these Tan *** Rugs.
In another one of our games, the smaller prizes were a toddler sandpit, some resources for
the Mysterious Island Monuments, a futuristic bathroom sink, and Gray *** Rugs.
We don't know any way to change the smaller prizes, because they are random.
But we're hoping that in future market events, we'll be able to get all of the possible prizes
eventually.
The next major thing to understand is that in order to win these prizes, you need to
earn enough points.
We'll talk about how to earn points in a little bit, but first we want to show how the points
and prizes work.
You can see how many points you have by tapping on the Market Sign.
Your points progress shows in this bar at the bottom in green.
The more points you earn, the more the green moves toward the right, toward these lines.
As you scroll through the prizes, it points to the line you need to hit in order to win
that particular prize.
Now, after completing the game tutorial, we have 3,734 points.
We need 12,960 points to win the first prize, the Wedding Dining Chair.
You need more points to win the other prizes.
And finally, in order to win the big prize, the Boom Camera, you'll need to win 144,000
points.
So how do you earn points?
By shipping orders for resources.
These resources are earned from helping sims in the workplace, the same as you do to get
badges and to level up in the professions.
These 3 cardboard boxes are 3 shipping orders.
If we tap on this shipping order in the middle which says 365, you can see that we have the
opportunity to win 365 points if we ship two 3D glasses, 9 popcorns, and 9 coffees.
We actually get 317 points from the resources, but we have a 15% bonus based on how built
up our Movie Studio is.
The more work stations you have built in your workplace, and the more you upgrade those
work stations, the higher your bonus is, and the more points you get for shipping orders.
If you don't have enough resources to complete the shipping order, you can go ahead and do
it by spending social points.
You can see here that we don't actually have any of the resources required for the order
-- it says zero across the board.
But we can ship the order anyway, and get points, by spending 14 social points.
If we helped more sims during our shift and got more of the required resources, the number
of social points would be lower.
The shipping orders you get are random.
For instance, if we tap on this order on the left which says 316, you can see that we have
the opportunity to win 316 points if we ship three 3D glasses, 4 coffees, and 11 popcorns.
If we tap the shipping order on the right which says 238, you can see that we have the
opportunity to win 238 points if we ship just 10 popcorns and 10 coffees.
The number of social points for this order is lower also -- only 10 compared to 14, because
fewer resources are required.
But you also get fewer points.
You get 3 shipping orders to choose from.
Each time you complete 1 shipping order, it resets to a different one with a different
number of points and a different number of required resources.
If you want to unlock a 4th shipping order and give yourself more chances to win points,
you can do that, but it will cost 50 social points to unlock a 4th shipping order.
The next major thing to understand about the SimTown Market is that there is another way
to win shipping order points.
You can use this Courier Sim to get big point bonuses.
You have to help him during a work shift, the same way you'd help any other sim who
shows up at the workplace.
Once you complete all the tasks for the Courier, you'll get a lot more points than you would
from just shipping orders regularly.
However, the Courier only shows up 1 time per shift, and he only stays for 4 hours.
So you need to complete all the tasks to help him during those 4 hours in order to win the
bonus points.
If the Courier's time runs out before you complete all the tasks, you won't get the
bonus points.
Here's what the boom camera looks like.
It shows up in the Electronics Section of the Home Store and it costs 50,000 simoleons.
It takes up 3 squares in a row and it can be placed inside or outside.
The sim gets two actions on it -- Cinematic Pan for 12 minutes and Dramatic Zoom for 1
hour and 40 minutes.
Both actions look the same, from what we can tell.
Like we said at the beginning of the video, we would guess that the SimTown Market will
show up again in future updates and be attached to the other workplaces.
So future big prizes could be related to the Police professions, or the Hospital professions.
But we'll just have to wait until then to see.
So hopefully you guys found this tutorial video helpful.
