It seems that the two seasons for professional conferences are fall and winter. Our fall
season kicked off not long ago with the Financial Planning of Charlotte annual Two-Day Symposium.
[intro music]
Both Juliet and I attend each year; it's the smallest conference we attend but we like
it because it IS small, it's easy to get to, and it's dense with information. It's
really just solid speakers one right after the other. In one and a half days we heard
presentations from nine separate speakers. And as always we came away with tons of good
information.
You'll notice that the room where they hold the sessions is kind of dark, but that's really
a minor complaint, just makes it difficult to shoot video. This first speaker was Samuel
Donaldson, an attorney and professor who — believe it or not — gave a very entertaining session
on tax and estate planning. This next guy is one of our favorites, Dr. David Kelly,
an economist with J.P. Morgan. I've heard him speak several times, and although I have
very little faith in economists, he seems to at least explain things in a much clearer
manner than most. Like any good economist, he gave us reasons to be both optimistic
and pessimistic. This is Leah Maybry, an accountant
who gave us a tax update. This guy is Tim O'Mara of Nationwide, who talked about health
care costs for seniors. Probably MY favorite speaker was Dr.
Craig Israelson, a university professor and creator of something called the 7Twelve Portfolios.
I liked him because he's low-key, you can tell that from the sweater vest, and he's
a runner. But more than that, he has used extensive research to develop an approach
to investing that is very similar to what we do at Millard & Company. And finally this
lady with the big hair is Dr. Quincy Crosby, she was the last speaker on the second day
— she was very entertaining and thought-provoking as well.
That's it for now. If you or someone you know needs financial planning or investment
advice, drop me an email or give us a call here at Millard & Company. Thanks for watching
— have a great day — and we'll see you next time.
