Never leave your child alone near water.
This cannot be stressed enough as children of all ages can drown in very
shallow water.
Children under 1 year are most at risk drowning in the bath.
It is therefore most important that you never leave baby alone at bath time
and always empty bathwater immediately after use.
It is also important to use an anti slip mat in the bath.
Other safety risks for both babies and children are
anywhere water is present as children can stray very quickly.
This also applies to babies creeping stage.
For example - toilets, sinks, basins, and outside water collecting containers like
barrels and basins
and even puddles. Water safety advice includes the following:
Never leave your child alone near or with water. Never leave your child alone
in the bath - even for a moment.
Use an anti-slip mat in the bath and on the bathroom floor.
Place safety latches on toilets. Securely cover water collecting containers.
Keep protective covers on man-made pools and fence off garden streams and open
water areas.
Learn the emergency phone numbers 999 and 112
and teach them to your children. We strongly recommend you and your
family
attend and complete a first aid course. First aid courses are run in many local
community areas throughout the year.
