My name is Alex Murray and I'm the local policing Superintendent for east Birmingham.
What we are doing today is crushing this car here
It's an uninsured car taken off the streets in Bordesley a few weeks ago.
West Midlands Police is committed to clamping down on uninsured drivers
For a number of reasons
Firstly because it puts premiums up and no one is happy about that.
More importantly for us 74% of people stopped without insurance
also have criminal records
We're finding that we are arresting more and more people
from seized cars in possession of drugs, supplying drugs
and in possession of offensive weapons
My message to you is if you don't have insurance on your vehicle, get insurance
if you don't we're going to stop it, take your car off you
prosecute you to ensure you do get insurance in the future.
This is the millionth car that's been taken off the streets in the UK
This was taken off the streets of Bordesley and as you can see it's been crushed
West Midlands Police is committed to taking uninsured vehicles off the streets
if you're driving without insurance and you're stopped
you will have your vehicle taken off you and it will be crushed or sold
If anyone has any information about people driving without insurance
or anyone involved in criminal activity please contact the police and we'll do something about it
