Hey guys, today we are going to be talking about the iMovie app used on Apple computers.
I want to give you a basic overview on importing clips, placing them on a timeline, trimming
the clips and adding transitions. From this basic demonstration, you will be
able to edit your own movies at home.
First we are going to open the iMovie application. You can do this by going to the Search option
on your apple computer or by going to into your applications folder.
Once the app opens, we will import our video clips into the project. To do this, go to
File, Import, Movies and then select the desired clips you want to work with.
Depending on the size of the clips, the process could take anywhere from a couple
minutes to a couple hours.
Now you can select parts of your imported clips by clicking and dragging a window
around the selection of clips you want to start editing.
The highlighted selection will appear in a yellow frame.
Once you have the selection framed, click and drag from the browser to the timeline.
This is where your creativity is shown by choosing different clips to build your story.
While arranging your clips on your timeline, you may want to trim parts of the footage
that you no longer want in your final product. To do so, click and drag a window around a
selection in your timeline. This again will be in an adjustable yellow
frame. Right click the selection and delete the
selection.
The next thing I want to show you is how to add transitions. To do that, move your
cursor under the preview screen on the right. Click the transition button next to the title
button. Here you will see a range of different transitions to choose from depending on
what style you are going for. For the opening transition, we will choose
the mosaic option. Click and drag it to the head of the first clip.
Next youʼll want to choose a transition to go in between the individual clips. I decided
to use the cross dissolve. Drag it to the middle
of 2 clips. I used the cross dissolve in between the remainder of the clips but you
can choose whichever you prefer. To end the video, choose the transition of
your liking. I chose the traditional fade to
black.
