Hello!?
Anybody home?
Hello and welcome to a new review
shot at Film Legends Museum in Podebrady.
This time we look at the time machine
DeLorean by Hot Toys,
the 1/6 scale figure of Marty McFly,
and we invited a special guest
a long-time collector, Jan Vana,
who will answer some of my question.
The product MMS260 by Hot Toys
arrives in a substantial box.
It's marked with movie logos,
Back to the Future,
and with DeLorean at the front.
The space inside the box
is fully occupied by the DeLorean vehicle.
The vehicle is packed securely.
You don't need to worry aby any damage.
No problems are being reported.
The styrofoam protects the car well.
Also included is the manual
with clear assembly instructions
for some tricky smaller compo nents.
And some stickers for fine details.
So, we give packaging full score.
This gorgeous vehicle's
length is 72 cm (28 inch),
width 35 cm (13 inch)
and height 21 cm (8 inch)
You can open both wing doors.
Ratchet joints allow better adjustment.
The door stays open.
I open the other one as well.
Upon closer look
even the flux capacitor has light-up function.
We can criticise only perhaps the car seats.
They could be leather-like.
The geartick includes leather-like material.
The carseats could have been treated the same.
This is perhaps the only downside.
Otherwise the armature around the car
which must be assembled after unpacking
tends to be a little tricky,
but with caution it can be done.
When finished, the details are rich and amazing.
Looking closely, it's the WOW effect
that sells the piece to you.
The characteristic metallic finish
is captured with astonishing accuracy.
The silver paint is so accurate
that you might thing the car is metal,
or diecast to be precise.
On the contrary, it's plastic,
but the time machine's finish
is amazing and upon closer inspection,
there are no paint surface defects
It's all beautifully made and painted.
I'd like to point out to the exhaust vents.
Their detail is realistic with scorch marks.
You can also see the welding points
Hot Toys took the effort to capture the fantastic detail.
The DeLorean can be switched on here.
I wanted to show you the hidden button.
Switching off and on.
All the diodes around the car are connect to the button.
Including the rear and tail lights.
A big advantage is that you can fuel the car
either by AC/DC adapter,
or by 3 AA batteries,
which are hidden here under the spare tyre.
Simple solution for the light-up function.
If you are interested in the value,
the US price is 690 USD.
You can be sure it's a keeper.
It's going to be a jewel of your collection.
It's a fan's heart's desire.
Back to the Future by Robert Zemeckis.
released in 1985.
A first part of the trilogy.
Hot Toys will produce DeLorean from Part II.
The flying one with tilting wheels.
And Marty figure will be redone with new clothes.
The high-tech, jacket for example, seen in the film.
The car's beatiful. We can recommend it.
Before I set the time & date for my next journey,
I'll tell you something about investment.
Even though Hot Toys' products are not numbered,
a well-known fact,
which applies to vehicles and figures alike.
We do not know how many units they produce.
Our guess is that not too many.
We estimate the value will increase over time.
It might double
within two or three years.
Marty McFly is integral to the franchise.
We have him here as a 1/6 scale figure.
by the aforementioned Hot Toys.
It's the Sideshow exclusive version
that comes also with the guitar.
There are also backpack, camcorder, and skateboard.
Included is also the figure stand.
We recommend purchasing the figure
together with the car.
They form a perfect diorama
And you will be proud of having the entire set.
We're not finished yet.
We have a special guest here today.
For many years he has been collecting
the 1/6th scale action figures.
I'd like to introduce today's guest,
Jan Vana,
who has been collecting for a few years,
Hot Toys and other figures.
Welcome to Statue Base.
Hi!
We have known each other for quite some time.
We are friends and colleagues.
We collaborate on Statue Base project.
I invited Jan to discuss his beginnings
as a fan and collector.
Can you tell us how you started
collecting and how did you learn about it?
I started a couple of year ago,
about four, I guess.
I discovered figures by chance online,
like many other collectors.
I didn't know I'd start buying something so expensive.
You were browsing eBay?
Something like that.
I have been collecting something
my whole life.
I collected soundtracks on CDs,
and as a kid I wanted every action figure around.
I love movies, videogames and comic books.
Back then I graduated college,
I finished my master's degree,
and wanted to buy myself something,
to commemorate the event.
Something I would otherwise not buy.
It started with one Hot Toy,
and now I own about 60.
Which one was the first?
Royce from Predators.
I bought that one from you!
Yes, I gave him up.
I can admit to that.
It's in my collection now!
I love about the figures,
that they are an investment.
In time when a figure reaches potential,
you can sell them,
and have funds to buy new figures.
Sometimes 2-3 figures,
by selling one.
There are so many figures nowadays,
I'd like to have so many,
but it's about money and also space.
So you have to choose carefully.
I can agree.
Companies produce so much good stuff.
and collectors weep,
because they do not know what to choose.
This hobby is very demanding.
You told us you've been a collector
for your whole life.
I have a similar life story.
But a friend of mine showed me
the world of high-end collectibles.
I didn't discover it by chance...
...on eBay or so...
My next question...
How much figures did you say you have?
About 60.
That's quite a collection you have.
A small museum.
Which figure do you hold most dear?
Which one is your favourite?
It's a hard question.
I know it is.
Let's say 3 most beloved.
Which our viewers might know.
I'm a big fan of Indiana Jones.
So number one is him, DX05,
which everyone criticises,
for it's not-so-good likeness,
but I love the figure nonetheless.
It has amazing accessories.
Maybe we should review it
in future episode of Statue Base.
It deserves attention of collectors.
Number two is Jack Sparrow,
also DX series.
Gorgeous figure.
In my opinion,
one of the best headsculpts
Hot Toys ever produced.
We are still missing it
here in the museum.
Yes, but I am not selling.
I din't mean it like that.
We have him here as a statue!
But when I saw Jack in your collection,
I had to agree it's fantastic.
The likeness is amazing.
I agree with you.
And the third?
The third one is difficult.
But judging price and performance,
quality and likeness,
it must be Jake Sully, Avatar.
It's an amazing figure.
Agreed.
It cost so little and you got so much.
It's price was so low back then.
It's huge, a 45 cm tall figure.
Very high-detailed.
You know I am a big Avatar fan.
I hold this movie very dear.
I am looking forward to the next movies.
By the way, what about you?
I can't wait to the new films.
I was a little disappointed about the delay
of premiere to 2018,
but I believe James Cameron's judgment.
It must be for a good thing.
Yes, he wants to push the limits of technology,
and set new standards of films.
That's perhaps why the production,
taking so long.
Let's wait and see what's in store for us.
I strongly believe, it's going to blow our minds.
Let's move to the review of DeLorean.
1/6 scale.
Marty McFly,
aka Michael J. Fox.
What's your opinion?
I own this figure myself.
Not this exclusive one...
Just regular version.
But I like it very much.
I am little afraid,
that I will need the upcoming one from part II,
and Doc Brown as well.
I like the new headsculpt a little bit more.
We should point out here
that there will be a new version of this figure.
With accessories from Part II, namely the jacket,
from the future.
Doc Brown will be also released.
Unfortunately, they didn't make Doc
from the first movie to complete the set.
So thanks for mentioning it.
We didn't talk about it in the review.
All viewers may not have known it.
The set from Part II is a must-have for me.
I'm a huge fan of this trilogy.
I would be happy if they released
Doc Brown from the first movie.
Maybe in the white radiation suit.
From the mall parking lot scene.
I'd love to have them both displayed together.
His typical costume everybody knows.
Or even his young version.
From the fifties.
His costume in Part II is yellow.
Yes, his clothes from the "future".
Maybe Hot Toys surprise us in the future.
And release the original Doc too.
I am optimistic about it.
The demand will be for it.
What do you think about the headsculpt?
Many collectors have some reservations about it.
Especially after the announcement of the new figure,
with a superior likeness they prefer now.
In my opinion,
judging from personal experience,
I like the current one more,
I feel this likeness to Mr. Fox is better.
Truth be told, I didn't see the new figure in hand,
there is only the prototype,
but it might differ from the final product.
We can discuss this issue in the future episodes.
What do you think?
I think the controversy here
is because Marty does not have a relaxed face.
The general portrait style.
Instead he looks shocked.
That's why majority collectors
pose hime like this.
looking at the watch, glasses on the forehead.
Maybe that's why the figure is not very crowd pleasing.
But that does not take anything away,
in terms of quality.
Rating sculpts is very subjective.
One man's gold is another man's trash.
I'm rather neutral here.
Before I have seen the prototype
of the upcoming figure,
I thought he couldn't be better.
Now, I have to admit there could be improvements.
But I do not want to sell him, either.
The sculpt is not half as bad as people say.
Quality of the tailoring outweights the sculpt.
The vest is great, pants, and the rest.
So you opt to have both?
We shall see.
Or in terms of investment...?
We'll see if selling him would be worth it.
But I think I like the films too much
to get rid of this figure.
I'd like to add that Hot Toys,
will probably not release a new version of Marty
from the first movie.
I guess not.
It's a cult classic...
...and it's a known fact,
they do not make many figures
from films like that.
From figure back to the car.
What's you overall opinion?
I'm totally blown away.
You know, when we opened it,
I was ecstatic.
The lights,
the excellent quality of product.
What about you?
When we were unboxing it, I was ecstatic too.
I had no idea it's plastic.
I thought it's diecast until the end.
The quality was a pleasant surprise.
I haven't seen a Hot Toys vehicle in real life before.
Only in pictures and videos on Youtube.
Nonetheless, I was impressed by the quality
of figures and vehicles alike.
Judging by the fact,
that their various batmobiles
you can buy only for astronomical prices on eBay.
DeLorean is no exception in terms of quality.
It's huge, and won't fit in my apartment.
It's not built to fit a Detolf case.
I'm only disappointed it's just a scaled replica.
I'd love to own a life-size DeLorean
in my garage.
Hop in time for an Alamanac.
Would be good, right?
Yeah.
Almanac would help finance a few figures
Indeed, it would.
I love Part II the most.
People usually like Part I or III,
but I adore the flying cars,
and if I had to choose,
I'd wait for the flying DeLorean
Hang on, we can try it here...
Look, it can fly very well.
It's a beaty.
But wait, you don't know,
it's the only specimen that really works.
Really?
Yeah, I'm not kidding.
That's hell of an upgrade.
One last question.
What figure do you plan to purchase next?
Do you have something in mind?
Some pre-order?
As all collectors know,
all our collectibles can be pre-ordered.
Our viewers might not know that.
Collectibles are pre-ordered in advance.
What awaits you?
It's a whole list of things.
Very soon I am expecting to arrive
is probably Batman
from Batman v Superman.
I'm not a huge fan of the film,
but the batsuit design,
and Ben Affleck's portrayal of the hero
makes me want the figure.
This Batman in particular
is sold out now.
Yes, it is.
Sorry to those who missed the chance.
It's price on eBay has climbed significantly.
I can confirm it myself.
First customers now have the figure.
Collectors praise the figure.
He looks really amazing.
You have what to look forward to.
Yeah.
You won't be disappointed.
Hopefully it arrives in Europe soon.
Thank you for the interview.
Thank you for having me.
Thanks to viewers for watching.
See you next time.
with a new review Statue Base.
Keep with us!
Thanks! Bye!
He ran away with it!
I have to buy it once again!
Where is he?
He was just here!
Hold on, it's...
Put it out! NOW!
Right, I forgot.
I'm an idiot!
Oh, that was too late.
Little scorched here.
How can you forget about fire?
