One of the things that I’ve learned as I’ve reflected on my life is that a lot of mentoring
is done with Jesus' method of impartation, where the mentor imparts their life into the
mentee. And so a lot of mentorship happens just by being around the person and doing
things with them. As opposed to saying this is what we are going
to talk about today and have an agenda and so on, it’s more being with, being alongside
and experiencing how they do things, how they look at things. My friend, *** Evans, who
is the chairman of Frost Bank, who’ve I’d have the privilege of working with for the
last 15 years . . . One of the things I’ve learned from him is the concept of brining
people along, not dictating, not forcing, but the idea of leading by bringing people
along.
