Botox and Dysport are neurotoxins that can be injected into the face to soften fine lines
and wrinkles. Here’s Dr. Kinney explaining their primary uses.
Botox is almost a verb but it is a botulinum toxin protein type A and Dysport is another
one that is also type A. The technology has been around for decades but just recently
has come into very common use—millions of injections for cosmetic purposes. Of course
it paralyzes the muscles, relaxes areas. It was approved up here in the frown lines—sometimes
people call it “the 11’s”. We also use it in other areas: here in the transverse
forehead, crows feet and there. You get this temporary relaxation which makes you look
younger and, you know, skin is smoother, and stops you from having a somewhat angry or
a frustrated look.
Well, I had Botox injections on my forehead and around my eyes. I’ve had it quite a
few months ago so I could probably use it again, but the reason I decided to do it is
because with my face just resting as it is now, sometimes people thought I was frowning.
In fact I’d even been teased by strangers just passing me in the hallway, for example,
who’d say “smile!” And I thought ‘why are they saying that?’ And I realized they
thought I was frowning. When I had the procedure done, it made it soften them quite a bit and
I was really pleased and I’d actually like to come and do it again.
