Hi there, welcome to Day 6 of The Rose Centre for Young Adults with Disabilities vlogs!!
My name is Kirsty Liddiard and I am a board member on the Rose Centre board
In this vlog I want to tell you a little bit about The Rose and a bit about what we do, another little bit about our current fundraising campaign
and also our very exciting imminent upcoming launch party, which we're all very very excited about
So the launch party's imminent cuz it's taking place this Saturday July 7th at Boston Pizza at 40 Eglinton Avenue East.
It starts at 7pm and we're hoping it will go on til late
and we're having a presentation at 8 o'clock to tell you a little bit about our new accessible website
There’ll be food, and lots of fun, and in true rose centre style, the event is fully accessible, so we're holding it in a wheelchair accessible venue
and we have ASL interpretation for the evening, and we have both male and female attendants coming as well
If you have any other access needs do get in touch with us
So as well as launching the website we're also inviting you on Saturday to celebrate, really this accessible fundraising campaign
our Grow the Rose campaign. So far we've raised a whooping 67.2% of our $5000 target. So we've raised just over three and a half thousand dollars so far.
Um, as I said our target was 5000 dollars so we're still a little bit away from our target
and we're still accepting, and welcoming and fully encouraging donations as well
So if you would still like to donate there is lots of time and you can go to the Rose Centre website
And also at the party we want to celebrate the Rose Centre because we think we're pretty great
cuz that's a reason for a celebration
So why the Vlogs? I asked myself the same question.
But the purpose of our daily vlogs, which are happening each day up until the launch party on Saturday
It's really just a chance for our board members to tell you a little bit about The Rose Centre, but also to talk a little bit about what the Rose Centre means to us personally
as board members. So although I've only been on the Rose Centre board of directors for a few months
The Rose Centre means a lot to me already. The fact that we talk very openly about disability and sex means a lot to me in terms of my work life
i've spent the last few years researching disability and sex for my doctoral work
and I know that those kinds of conversations don't happen freely, often in certain spaces
And on a more personal level, just the space that we create, and when I say we i'm talking about us as directors but also our members
who really come together to talk about their stories, about their lives, and together we produce a space which is inclusive, which to me is quite radical
and just where we really support each other and listen to each other's experiences, and stories
And to me as an individual, and as a very proud disabled woman, that's an incredible, special place to be a part of and created
So that's what the Rose Centre means to me. So come party with us on Saturday and feel free to bring people, bring yourselves, enjoy yourself, celebrate what we've achieved
as an organization so far. Which we think is pretty substantial. And also to create some buzz about the exciting opportunities
which The Rose Centre for Young Adults with Disabilities has got yet to come in it's near future. Thank You
