arrive favorites were my heroes one of my friends jim gene is with us is the
chairman of democracy for america
uh... d_f_a_ democracy for america dot com one of the website so you constantly
hear me telling here you go to
and uh...
jim welcome topics bradley on our reactors great you guys are still doing
trains around the country ought to be a how to be an activist sure are at we
actually just finally got to anchorage alaska about two weeks ago
so we've got about four more states to go to but more than a still keep pushing
this and ah...
cod four more states before you go fifty gap allelic half shell access panel
along all of that but we gotta keep coming back you know we gotta keep
getting people involved in making it easier for people to take responsibility
over the political process political fertile for
miles jockey is a
well i i i i i i prayer lied but i i think they don't really creepy better
than it is a treaty better than the other smitha as unfortunate i
and actually played a game for years anyway
be the take back america movement to take back the american dream movement
actually evidence and that's important station because
europe free reagan we all understood that the american dream
was the life that
that my dad most my friends parents that i grew up in a in lansing michigan a
blue collar working class town my dad worked into a dive shop my next-door
neighbors dad worked at all as will be all i think i cross the street was
worked with the fisher body and amp you know that was and and on that one single
salary can raise a kid raise a family put your kids to college whom i get my
four sons and n
and have a pension and retire
how we take back the american
well i think it's a lot of different things fall uh... comedy gather wants
uh... here you're seeing it with the spontaneous at actions are going on all
over the country with the occupy wall street uh... and uh...
that's really important these folks are keeping this thing alive just like the
folks in wisconsin did in february and in january of last year which is very
very important
um... you're seeing labor uh... within renewed vigor right now and it's not
just within their membership it's outside of the membership with a lot of
people who are
empathetic when the idea that if you were for a living in this country ought
to be able to make a living
uh... and they're an empathetic with the fact that labor does offer
but the kinds of opportunities it wants a society that offers not just
aretha living wage but opportunities up for people to have advancement
opportunities for our kids using a resurgent there then
you're listening to a lot of other great progressive groups out there right now
uh... offering different ways
to get involved but the important operative word here is get involved it's
not about one organization another it's about all of us
taking back control of the political process and taking back control
of our country from big business
and democracy for america
dot com the website for your organization i want to say that again
'cause i wanted
two people to go there and be i'd like to talk to about armed beyond that this
conference your purchase patience conference your senses conference where
you here
what do you see going on here
well is it's always helpful for us had to be at places where there are other
groups doing other work so we can understand that that original lots more
uh... about what's going on out there and also get smarter about how to be
effective
um... you know we were very very involved in the wisconsin um... recall
elections aware we're just might open diac over to ohio
uh... where were working with a broad coalition of groups uttered to repeal at
the end i collect a bargain legislation that governor casey past so the s_p_
five s_p_ five uh... and i a m that kudos to the folks who got uh...
uh... they suppose oppression reveal on the ballot that's not gonna happen or
two thousand twelve its very important for this election hip-hop we have a lot
of other opportunities in other states for forward-thinking legislation that
we're not about just fighting back against
these folks know we have a lot of states terribly setting up these health care
exchanges
com connect may include
up some of the government option settlers vermont did in his bill last
year montana and the governor schweitzer came out last winter the week before
saying he wants to do that that we have other states they're talking about
public financing of elections which in my home state of connecticut it's been a
home run
uh... for everybody but the supreme court has knocked that down in in in
arizona today knock it down summarily recibido different wavered we they
knocked it down basically because what they're saying is is that you can't
on uh... tell a candidate that they have to cut a lock stock and only
or or that they can spend all the money they want an election
com so in fact in connecticut for example if you have a billion dollars
wanna run for legislation you can't do it but the fact is into short cycles tom
what this is already done
is dot and it created a culture among the voters where they don't believe
deeply appreciate candidates were spending a lot of money and races
critically when they're opponents are taking public financing there that's why
governor malloy got elected over a free-spending republican um... and it's
like what were the reasons why richard blumenthal won his race against so you
already have public funding incommunicado for two cycles by two
other and uh... it was the legislative brokerages in the governor's races last
year was the first governor's race verified that have been in place of over
shoulder getting how many signatures on the dollar sitting on the legislative
races by and this may have changed but this could change one cycle in the next
but that you had a raise fifteen thousand dollars five hundred dollar
contributions uh... a lot of it had to come from within your district
i'm getting at a certain amount of signatures on the ballot and then you
qualify
for an eighty five thousand dollar grant selection of millions of dollars in a
legislator brace were basically having legislative contest for less than a
hundred thousand dollars right now amazing yeah engines taken all the big
special interest money out of politics so what happens if uh... you know one of
the microbial karo says g_p_s_ whatever comes in and his friends
you know a half million dollars a ads begin somebody well limited man to the
same thing against richard blumenthal elastin which are blumenthall one
uh... tom foley tinted against governor malloy and govern the lawyer wants so
they get out and as a result of the sponsors of the project increases the
international polling shows that people when they start hearing these
commercials all they're being reminded of is that these components have a lot
of money
uh... sell it if you're coming and they have to connect with them in california
shirt so if we can't keep more states adopting this would get more cities to
adopted which is an opportunity next year
we could start coming down citizens united a different way
uh... at this time for a constitutional amendment but you've gotta get everybody
on board with corporations not people money's not speech
amend the constitution
argentine democracy for america dot com is the website that's a florida mark
