What I would, you know, like all of us to reflect on is that
when I talk about the notion of basic goodness being an inherent nature of humanity,
of course we bring up, "Well, except for so and so". [laughter]
We all have bad experiences and it may be very, very deep;
and it’s the notion of badness;
it’s a challenge.
But I want to say this is not... this didn’t come
because my father was a visiting professor, taking a year off as a sabbatical,
and had nothing else to do and came up with this theory.
He lived and experienced one of the most cruel moments in human history.
So that is what I’ve been reflecting on;
because for most of us if somebody takes our parking space, [laughter] we lose it; [laughter]
if somebody says one strange word to us we go "Oh, revenge!".
You know those things happen; but we’re being asked to be deep people;
we’re being asked to connect to a deep level of inner strength and consciousness;
and I believe that that’s what we are going to have to do; we’re going to have to dig deep.
Life now is at a very heightened, almost superficial level;
and it is constant reaction.
We all need time to self-reflect, deepen, and then go forward.
