Moving now to the ongoing status reports being given to President Park Geun-hye,The ministries
in charge of gender equality and labor handed in their policy goals which include a fight
against sex crimes in the nation and the creation of more than 2 million new jobs.
Our Lee Ji-yoon ... has this report. President Park Geun-hye on Friday emphasized the need
for a creative economy to create more jobs, and said that the government must keep a close
eye on guaranteeing women's labor rights at the workplace.
In line with the president's wishes, the Ministry of Employment and Labor said it plans to raise
the country's employment rate to 70 percent by 2017.
The ministry said it would also step up efforts to provide more employment opportunities for
women and the youth by establishing an ability-based employment system.
Other policy goals of the labor ministry included, raising the retirement age, providing more
employment opportunities for senior citizens, and shortening work hours.
In the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's report to President Park, plans to prevent
sex crimes and toughen the punishments on sex offenders were introduced.
For one, the ministry wants to make sure that those convicted of raping children are given
jail time, not suspended sentences.
And to better protect women and children, the ministry plans to launch a nationwide
sex crime prevention campaign, through public advertisements.
As for dealing with domestic violence, it said punishments for people who violate restraining
orders will be strengthened.
Other policies on the list included supporting the employment of women who may have been
forced out of their jobs after getting pregnant.
