Now over the years
we've learned that that journey to justice has become a lot more difficult
and it's mainly because of the economics involved. Back in 1972
when I first started
my trek
in workers compensation a maximum benefit Pennsylvania was only $60/week
there was not a lot of stake.
Now
the average weekly wage benefit is over $900/week so there's
there's a lot more at stake for the insurance companies and they pay a lot
more attention.
so what does that mean? Somebody who gets involved in an injury on the job... and that
injury can take the form of... slipping and falling, lifting something it's too
heavy, being exposed to chemicals at the workplace... there is a number of different
things. There's all sorts of stresses that take place
and believe it or not
in a serious injury
the first call that your employer makes is not
to the hospital. It is to its insurance carrier
who then calls their lawyers. All of the sudden they are all "Lawyered Up" before the ambulance
even takes you from the workplace—
if god forbid you should be seriously injured.
