Hi, this is Pete from Strymon.
We are going talk about the blueSky Reverberator.
We've got five knobs.
The first one is Decay.
Which is pretty self-explanatory, it sets the reverb decay from very long decay at maximum,
to short decay.
The Low Damp Control, controls the amount of low frequency in the reverberations.
If we turn up to maximum, we'll have the maximum amount of low frequency in the reverb.
If we turn that back to minimum, we're going to get a reduction in the reverberated low frequencies.
So you can hear the low end damping away very quickly there.
The Pre-Delay determines the amount of delay time between the dry signal and the reverberated signal.
So at minimum setting the reverb happens right on top of the dry signal.
With maximum Pre-Delay you'll hear a noticeable delay between the dry and the reverberated sound.
Find a happy medium in there.
That's a very important control for setting the amount of space.
The dynamics of the space.
We're going to get into that in a little bit.
The High Damp Control, controls the high frequency content of the reverberated sound.
So at maximum we've got a lot of high-end in the reverberation.
At minimum we damp that high frequency information very quickly.
Really changes the character of the entire reverberation there.
And the Mix Control, controls the wet/dry mix from full dry
to fully reverberated with no dry signal.
The switches allow us to select between three different types of reverb
and each one of those has three modes to choose from.
We've got a Plate Reverb, which is a recreation of a studio plate.
This is basically large piece of metal where the signal comes in one side, and you listen
to the reflections as the signal travels down this metal plate.
That gives you a very characteristic sound that is very useful for vocals
and has kind of a bright quick response.
With shorter plates we can simulate a room sound which is what would be done in studios a lot.
You can add some Pre-Delay and some Damping to create a kind of physical environment.
The Pre-Delay with maximum Decay can also create a very large ambient sound.
Another reverb type we have is the Room type.
The Room is very flexible reverb algorithm that goes from a very small closet size room to a huge arena style.
What it does is actually physically recalculates the dimensions of the space that is
being recreated in order to really change the dynamics of the reverb
and the early reflections and that type of thing.
So with small reverbs and small Pre-Delay that's how we create
the sense of a very intimate and closed environment.
We'll see the effect of the Pre-Delay here by keeping the same Decay setting
and increasing the Pre-Delay.
This can really change the feel of the reverb there.
So that's just the Pre-Delay working there.
And then of course we can increase the Decay time to get a larger space.
You can actually hear the space.
What you're hearing is actually the walls of the space are moving as we change the decay time here.
So at maximum we've got a very large space and if we compliment that with a long
Pre-Delay we can get a very ambient sound here as well.
Spring Reverb Type benefits from the flexible controls to really create a wide range of springs that
go from classic and traditional to things that really aren't available in a typical spring tank.
One is by setting a very short Decay and adding some Pre-Delay you can get a spring
that's really shorter than anything that would exist in a physical spring.
It's almost kind of a small room spring sound.
But it still has the attack and the characteristics of the spring at heart.
We increase the Decay time there.
One thing we've noticed that the spring circuits in many vintage amplifiers
vary quite a bit tonally from one to another.
With the High and Low Damp, you can really create a wide range of those sounds.
With minimum low Damp and maximum High Damp we get a very bright spring sound.
And by bringing those to noon or even rolling back the High Damp a little bit more, you can really change the tonality there.
With maximum Decay you can really get a long spring.
