Hi!
Here at Gallaudet University,
the Financial Aid office plays an important part
of getting your degree.
The staff that work here are always available
to help you pay for school because financing
your education is an investment in your future.
This video will show you different ways
how financial aid can support students' future successes.
Right now, I'm filling out my FAFSA and IFAA applications
to help me pay off my college debt.
If I fill these out early,
I can look into different opportunities to get more money.
This will help me find out what scholarships
and grants are out there for me to apply for
to continue my education.
Maintaining good grades can lead to scholarships and grants.
You get two copies of the Award Letter
because one copy is for you to keep
and the other one is for your VR counselor.
Do not forget to send a copy of your grades
and class schedule with your award letter too.
If you don't send them in,
they can't process your paperwork.
Once you send them in,
your VR counselor has the paperwork they need!
I looked at my Bison account
and can see the scholarships and grants I received this year.
I also can see my Federal Work Study program.
All of that is a great help but it isn't enough.
So, I'm filling out a loan request form to help me
with what's left to cover.
Hi.
Hello, how can I help you?
Yes, I looked at my Bison account today
and was confused about my balance.
It seems I owe $2,400?
The $2,400 is obviously your meal plan,
which is your responsibility to pay for.
You can pay the balance online -
just go to Bison, and click on "Self Service",
"Student Center", then click "Pay Online";
you'll see a menu on the left side.
There are different options there such as "Make a Payment",
"View My Account" and so on.
You can make a payment by check, credit cards
like Mastercard, Discover, American Express, but not VISA.
There's a service fee of 2.75% for paying via credit card.
I suggest paying by check but really, it's up to you.
You can check online at that computer over there.
You'll get a confirmation email, thank you, have a good day.
Yes, thank you for your help.
Thanks for the help.
I received a grant, scholarship, and a loan to help
but I still owe Gallaudet some money.
I work closely with my parents every semester
to make sure my balance is paid in full by the deadline.
I also come here to the Student Accounts Office
and they're always eager to help us.
(Oh, I just got an email from the Financial Aid office?
I better stop by and ask what's up.)
Hello, I got an email about something about my account?
You needed more information?
Yes, I contacted you to come in to complete your account
with more information so we can process your paperwork.
I appreciate you coming in here!
Sure sure, thank you for your help.
I understand better now.
This student made financial aid a priority
and assumed responsibility.
Now we can help him figure out how he will pay
for books, school, the dorms, his meals, and so on.
With our help he can get ready to register
for the next semester.
If we can help him, we can help you too.
You know, when I was a Gallaudet student
I remember I wasn't sure how to pay for school
because I knew it was expensive.
I stopped by the Financial Aid Office
and asked a staff member to help me
and they were ready to do so.
They had all the resources that I needed.
Thanks to their help, I made it through and graduated!
Now, I'm an alumni...
next, it's your turn.
