Nate Chongsiriwatana: I think an advantage of doing a job like this is that you're always
at the forefront of technology and, you're always seeing exciting new developments and
that really kind of keeps you on your toes and keeps things mixed up a little bit. It
never really gets monotonous, right? There's always a different kind of project to work
on.
Jelena Libby: For very different aspects I have...working on a project for a cleaning
solution and also for a pharmaceutical drug company.
Nate Chongsiriwatana: Yeah, I got to work on a project with Emily about DNA concatemers
and got to learn all about those things, which I had never really looked into before. So,
you might be working on a specific type of issue and you do research on it, and then,
for that time, you kind of become the expert on that and I feel like the dissemination
of knowledge, even if you're new, goes both ways. You know, someone might say, "Oh, I
just heard you looked into this," and then, they'll come and ask you about it. And so,
there's just a lot of open communication here, which I really like that atmosphere.
Jelena Libby: I came in as a technical advisor thinking that I'll be advising people at MBHB
but it turned out that they are actually very knowledgeable about what they do. They are
very technologically savvy. They are very educated. They are just like me. So, they
didn't need a lot of advising. In this job, you work a lot with various clients. You get
to know the technology, you get to know the science and it helps you grow as a person
because you love science. That's what you went to school for. That's what you studied.
That's what you read in the newspaper and post about on Facebook. The passion is what
you're doing every day and we, you know, we help inventors, we help small business and
large business protect their intellectual property.
Nate Chongsiriwatana: Do you ever have pipette thumb from pipetting so much in the lab?
Jelena Libby: Yeah, I think if have carpal tunnel. (Laughter)
Nate Chongsiriwatana: And, now, you just get to read about the product involved with that
work that someone else has done instead of doing it yourself.
Jelena Libby: Poor person.
