Hi, my name's Justin Cote.
I am a chartered accountant and I work for Deloitte & Touche,
and I'm currently in the role of Audit Senior.
I come back to Brock a lot for recruiting events
and one of the most common questions I get asked is, "How did you do it?"
How did you go from Brock to where I am now?
And, to be fair, it's a difficult question to answer,
and my response typically comes in two parts.
Number one, you gotta have a strong resume.
And strong resume has a good balance of academics
and extracurricular involvement.
I think this is where Brock really stands out.
Academically, you're being taught by trained professionals
and leading researchers in their field,
but more importantly, you're being taught by individuals
that are willing to take that extra step
to make sure you understand the material.
In terms of extracurricular involvement,
Brock's got numerous things going on throughout the year,
be it community fundraising, social- social groups, athletics,
you name it, there's ways for you to get involved at Brock.
And the second part of my answer is,
you gotta build those strong social networking skills.
And here at Brock, the Business Career Development Office
does a fantastic job bringing in top employers from the region
to numerous recruiting events, be it the Networking Breakfast,
CA Night, firm info sessions, panel discussions,
or case competitions – you name it.
The top employers are here, they're scouting Brock talent,
and they're a fantastic way for you to improve your social skills.
So, I guess in closing,
my challenge to you, the prospective student, would be,
you know, university is a lot like life –
you're gonna get out of it what you put into it.
And the fantastic thing about Brock is,
Brock's got a lot for you, a lot to offer,
and it's just up to you to willing, to come here and take it.
