Two
fifth graders in Washington are now facing charges of conspiracy to commit *** after
authorities discovered weapons and ammo in one of their backpacks.
School officials
told the Los Angeles Times the two boys planned to use a knife and a .45-caliber handgun to
lure a girl outside the school and kill her, quote, “because she was really annoying.”
The
two boys recently confessed to the Spokesman-Review that this was a part of a larger plan to harm
an additional 6 students at Colville Elementary school - in the northeastern part of the state
of Washington, near the Canadian border.
Although a list of names — presumed to be other targets
— was also found in the boy’s backpack, Washington state law says children ages 8
to 12 are “presumed not to have the mental capacity to form the intent to commit crime.”
Much
less, plan multiple murders. According to court documents, a teacher at the school searched
one of the boy’s backpacks and found the weapons in question. The Huffington Post reports.
“The
would-be killers were thwarted after a fourth-grader noticed one boy playing with a knife and alerted
a school teacher.”
This incident comes in the wake of President Obama’s push for
stricter gun laws. The President’s proposed bans include expanded background checks and
bans on certain semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity clips.
