This tutorial will introduce you to the basic interface features of Google Sites,
and show you how to work with text on ePortfolio pages.
To edit content on an ePortfolio page, click the edit button.
This reveals a familiar text-editing toolbar and contextual menus for inserting
media into a page and modifying the structure of a page.
In this tutorial, we're only going to work with text.
The first thing I'm going to do is modify the text on the homepage of
the CWR template to personalize it.
I can modify this text just like I could if I were using word processing software.
I might make the text bold or italic or underline.
I might change the color of the text or the background color of the text.
Or, I might change the font or the font size.
Next, I am going to delete the instructional text on this page and replace it with my biography.
I can click one of these three buttons to change the alignment of the text,
or I can indent my text to the left or to the right.
Finally, I can create an ordered or an un-ordered list.
If you don't like the way the text looks on your page, and you want to start from scratch with the formatting,
select the text and click the "clear formatting" button.
If you are copying and pasting text from Microsoft Word, it's a good idea to clear
the formatting after you paste it, and restyle the text the way you want it to look.
Copying and Pasting from Word brings pages and pages of invisible code that may make your portfolio
page less accessible. Your teacher will give you specialized instructions for what kinds
of text you should have in your ePortfolio, and on which pages. Always remember to click
"Save" when you are done working with an ePortfolio page.
In the next tutorial, we'll talk about inserting images, video, and other types of media.
