How to install a bimini top. Step 1: having pre-determined your mounting
points, simply position the deck hinges on the gunwale, taking care to measure so that
the location of each deck hinge is the same on both the port and starboard side of the
boat. Using the deck hinge as a guide, use a 9/64
drill bit to drill your screw holes. If drilling into fiberglass, it's important
to hollow out the hole slightly with a circular motion of the drill.
Place screws in the drill holes and tighten. Step 2: repeat step 1 to set your eye straps
and brace kit deck hinges if applicable. Generally speaking, these mounting points
should enable you to form the letter "M" when the straps and brace kit are attached.
Step 3: for proper fit and performance, the top adjustment must be extremely tight.
Position the adjuster straps under the canvas, so that the center bow falls along the seam
of the canvas. Leave these straps loose.
The adjuster straps should be tightened after the installation is complete.
Adjust the straps so that they are as tight as possible.
Step 4: attaching the hold-down straps to the eye straps should be a 2-step process
to ensure that the top is as tight as possible. First, attach the snap hooks to the eye straps,
and tighten the straps as much as possible. Then, remove the snap hooks from the eye straps,
and shorten the length of the straps another 1-to-2 inches.
It will not require a good deal of force to re-attach the snap hooks to the eye straps.
This is easily accomplished by applying pressure to the top of the frame with one hand, while
attaching the snap hook to the eye strap with your other hand.
It is normal for the bows of the frame to arch slightly under the pressure of properly-tightened
straps. The adjuster straps under the canvas may now
be tightened, so that the canvas conforms fully to the frame.
