Hello. My name's Tony Habra, and I'm the Superintendent of Rudyard Area Schools. This is the first
in a series of videos where I intend to explain the strategic plan; go through it and how
it works to basically show everything we do in the district.
The strategic plan was created about four years ago by a group of individuals, the school
board, the administrators, teachers, community members, and other staff members who took
the time to either fill out a survey or come in and have a conversation directly. In that
time, we created our mission statement—Our Community Educating Students for Success—and
then we had four specific goals. Goal 1 was to increase student achievement.
That's an important goal and second only to the safety of our students. That's what school
districts are all about. The second is to improve financial stability
—for student achievement. We added that last line on there because we thought it's
important that we realize and remember at all times that it isn't just about money,
it's about spending money wisely to make certain that our students maintain and improve achievement.
The third is to improve internal and external communications. That's one of the purposes
of this video. This video is one of the ways that we're going to go ahead and increase
the communication with our community. And finally, we're looking to maintain a safe
and efficient environment. That's very important. We want to make certain that our
students stay safe. We've done a lot with these different goals
over the last several years because each of these goals, which have remained the same,
have separate activities attached to them. These activities vary from year to year. The
board creates new activities, examining them each July. We spend time, a full day, in a
retreat talking about the different activities and deciding if they're still valid or if
they need to change or if we need to add new ones as new things happen among the State
and for our students. Over the next several weeks, we'll be making
a series of videos, the purpose of which is to highlight each of these activities and
how they help student achievement. Thank you.
