Morning. It's Sunday, August 15, and we're headed for the second time to Yosemite to
conquer Half Dome. So, see you in a bit.
Hi Troy. Hey. Well, we made it to Yosemite and we're checked in here at Curry Village.
This is our tent cabin and right here we have a bear locker to store our food and actually
anything that smells. So, I'll just stick some stuff in here. Let's go on inside.
Wow, nice. Yeah, I think they've upgraded these cabins recently. They look at lot nicer,
and they even have here a safe to put your stuff in. The only thing is this year it looks
like they don't have an outlet so if you want to charge your phone or charge your camera
I guess you have to charge it in the bathroom or in the lobby or something like that.
Well, good morning. It's August 16, Monday, and we are just starting out. It's about 10
minutes before, 10 minutes before 4. Just left Camp Curry about 2 minutes ago and it's
pretty dark!
Hey! Well, it's 5:15 and we're a pretty good ways up, I don't know if you can see, we came
up the Mist trail, crossed the bridge, came up here, and I think we are I believe we are
right here at this junction and we're just going to go up here to Nevada Falls. It shows
here Liberty Cap, which is that big thing in the distance I don't know if you can see
it and to the right of it is Nevada Falls. So hopefully we'll be in less than 2 hours.
Hi, we got here in Nevada Falls it's 5:55. We've 2/3 of the way to Half Dome to go and
that's it!
It's 8am and I don't think we're quite at the subdome but we're pretty close. You see
we're going to have to go up that really steep part and that last part is the Half Dome and
the cables. So hopefully in an hour or two we'll be at the top.
Let me run up and say hi to Milka.
Hi Milka. We're going to take a little break here. You can see it kinda goes down [unintelligible]
Ok, here we are at the beginning. Milka is just starting up all the way to the top.
And, there's Milka. Hi, we made it to the top of Half Dome. It's 9:15 right now. We're
gonna grab something to eat and then we're gonna take a picture on the surfboard.
Ok well, it's 10am, so it's time to start heading back. What have we learned from this
experience? Bring less food definitely next time. And work out the calves at the gym so
you don't get cramps. Definitely next time I think I'm gonna buy, fork out the $100 bucks
for the via ferrata so we can clip in on the way, and I guess the harness. So, aside from
that it's been pretty good though. So I think we're gonna get going down.
It's so much work I just have to get one more shot. There's Half Dome and we're standing
right in the saddle so from here you can see kinda part of Yosemite Valley, oh no I'm sorry
that's not Yosemite Valley, but as you can see if we just go towards the edge of this
saddle it's quite steep and if you fell down you would surely die. You would go straight
to the bottom which is probably about 4000 feet. And I'll turn over here and here I'm
looking at the subdome which we're gonna have to climb over and go down on the other side.
And as you can see this is truly a saddle point because on the other side, I just turned
180 from the other dropoff and as you can see here is an even steeper dropoff.
And back to Half Dome.
Ok well, we made it back to Nevada Falls it's 1:25. A little tiring coming back, I'm not
sure why it seems like it would be easy, but we're sort of running out of energy. Anyway,
we brought, we each brought 3 liters of water and 1 liter of Gatorade. And that might, almost
be enough, but it's really pushing it and we're pretty thirsty so here at Nevada Falls
we're gonna refill. We got some water from the river, and we got this fancy UV light,
we're gonna stick it in here put the UV light in, turn it on and swirl it around, and it'll
purify the water. So, here we go. You wanna watch this whole thing? The green light goes
on.
