Today on 3space we've White Pulp band as our first guest! Welcome guys!
On my right so on your left as well there's Sonny, then Nuke and Charlie on the top, next to Elisa.
What kind of music do you play?
It's rock-electro-industrial
So, let's explain a little better what this kind of music is like...
Well, 'rock' reminds us something known, but what about 'industrial'?
Well, someone said we're pretty close to NIN sound...
Someone did but we're well aware it's a demanding comparison.
Anyway, we love them so I'd like to say we are following the latest NIN's example.
So you refer to that sound
Your band is called White Pulp, but black seems to be your main colour
Well, who was the one -maybe you- involved in a Marilyn Manson tribute band?
It was me - me and Nuke, we've been involved in it
So why be called White Pulp in such an environment - the rock one...?
Why White Pulp?
White Pulp means 'Polpa bianca', it could refer to a lot of things... 'fate vobis'!
I don't think there's a chief reason
We liked its sound, so we kept this name.
You know, it's a proof of frankness!
Everytime we ask someone something as ‘Why did you choose 'Stranger Purple'?'
they blab something like 'Cause we're strangers to our soul' and stuff like that
They’re always ad-libing 'cause they don't know what to say!
If you like just the sound of a word...
We don't care at all, it sounds great so it's ok
In this case your target is to make everything sound great...
We hope to make it, and we think we do!
Now let's talk about your projects... We're here mainly to talk about it
Yes,'Ashamed of Youself', it's our first CD
It's a new issue, so how many tracks have you recorded?
What did you take your ispiration from?
We've 12 tracks on it, and the CD's concept emerged when I was in the USA, in LA
where we were playing promotional gigs with a different line-up. Then I returned
and since me and Nuke have both been playing in a tribute band
and we haven't seen each other for about 2 years I called him.
He liked the songs and so we had both a name and a concept to work on
Then we decided to record the CD, to set the band up and pursue this project.
It was the first time we were working together on something ours.
Beside choosing the band name focusing on sound you don't follow any logic
neither as far as lyrics are concerned... You know
I'm just quoting you , I'm not expressing a personal idea
You said you simply follow a stream of consciousness
without allowing any kind of rationality to interfere and get the better of you.
Would you like to say something about it?
Basically, as far as I'm concerned I wrote senteces that are both really forthright and simple
then I put them together. Sometimes I prefer choosing random sentences
and I use them to get lyrics which makes complete sense.
Anyway they usually come out from peculiar periods,
so an utterance you can firstly consider senseless
could actually be relevant within the CD concept.
We don't use this system to make things complicated.
We like it only because it's useful to get more complex results, to a certain extent.
So you underpin melody?
Yes, we go by melody
Then are lyrics just a sort of consequence?
Yes they are, but it depends... Frankly some lyrics have come out from a different path.
Do you know who acts the same? It's Amedeo Minghi! (Italian pop singer)
Does he? Really?
Yes, you can't get anything he's singing about... Really!
Well, jocking aside, if you read lyrics by Amedeo Minghi (Ehy, Nuke looks dumbstruck!)
you can't take what the point is, but it there surely is!
Actually I'm sure your lyrics make sense!
Well, don't know exactly what Amedeo Minghi does
but I think it's something like James Joyce's stuff
We chose to act like this, although there certainly is something more forthright
It's a sort of a stream of consciousness
exactly as James Joyce and other great writers' ones as well
They made it successfully.
Well, in our opinion there certainly is something more forthright in this CD.
Anyway we made most of the tracks working in that way
If nothing else it has been more interesting!
At this stage you aroused our curiosity, so let's watch your video
and then we'll get back to our debate!
