My first year at uni I actually lived on campus at Vickery House. It was very exciting, living
with 8 different individuals from various parts of the world. I found it very interesting
to learn about different cultures, everyones very accommodating.
I have a few, close bunch of friends, who I see all the time, even during holidays and
everything. It's good as well in that I think they're future contacts. So, not only and
they have the same interests as you, obviously. Doing the same majors.
Curtin provides a really big range of student clubs so that's something that I find was
really interesting to get into, and that it just made like meeting new people so much
more fun and it was also good because you meet people outside of your course as well.
Uni is just a boiling pot of different people, from all over, all over the world. Curtins
very international so I've met my first room mate was Canadian, and I had a lot of great
times with him. And I've got an American living here now, and there's a German down the hall.
So it's great that you can meet all these different people and you know grab these
lasting friendships that you can take with you.
Two of my friends are from Italy, two of my, another two friends are from Japan.
And it's just fantastic. The different type of people you meet, and the fact that it's
not just undergrads or people your age. You meet mature aged, and younger than you, and
people who not doing commerce, people who are.
Have to say, the Tav. Enjoying a beverage at the Tav after a hard day of study is definitely
a good thing. But Curtin offers so many things, it's great. You can go and catch a theatre
production at lunch time if you're that way inclined.
So I play futsal every week, and part of the, at the Curtin Stadium. Play a lot of sports
there. Like we do the beach volleyball, and netball, floor ball.
When I'm not in class I'm usually hanging out with friends either at the Tavern or in
the main cafe. Or otherwise playing pool at the Curtin commerce club.
Another thing I love about the campus is there's a lot of green pockets around that you
can sit around. Especially the oval down the front and just in front of the library. You know,
the trees are fantastic to sit around on Wednesday afternoons, we have a little music festival
going on, and that's definitely a good way to chill out during the common break time.
I love joining all the clubs on your first orientation week. Everybody's trying to get
your attention. I think I joined the Curtin commerce club when I was, back in the day
in 2007 and went to fresher camp, which was loads of fun.
Yeah I've attended most Guild events. Mostly the social functions. Such as beach bash,
summerfest and octoberfest.
I really enjoyed John Curtin weekend, where you actually go away to a remote town for
the weekend to do some volunteer work. One year we went to build up a play group for
some kids at the local school and that was fantastic cause we were digging out sand castles,
constructing bike paths, and all those sorts of things.
I've gotten involved in a student organisation called ISEC. Which focusses on leadership,
leadership development and also exchange opportunities as well.
