I’m Emily Halstead and my course is Accounting and Finance. I chose Huddersfield because
of all the opportunities that my course offered me. I had the chance to participate in the
Erasmus exchange programme in my second year where I moved abroad for a year. And then
in my third year, I had the opportunity to do a placement year. I’ve had a lot of support
off the tutors, especially when I went to Holland I had visits from them, and down in
Kent also, they came to visit me then. Their main priority is that we’re all happy and
comfortable and if we go looking for help, they’re more than willing to spend their
spare hours in the day helping us and making sure that we get the best grade possible.
It’s nice to know that tutors haven’t just read a book and they’re trying to teach
us form a book. It’s nice to know they actually know what they’re talking about and they
can give us the experience that they’ve had in the past and that we’re
probably likely to face in the future.
I think it’s really important to get hands on experience in the work place for a placement
year because a lot of places want the experience when you go for your grad jobs. And I think,
for me, it’s much easier. I’ve learnt a lot over the year. I’ve
become so much more independent, my work ethic’s changed a lot so,
my final year has been easier. It’s easier for me to go to the library and study more,
because I’ve already got used to working forty hours a week. And also, looking for
grad jobs, I’ve had a couple of offers from that work place so it should be easier
getting back into work. I’d recommend Huddersfield University because of all the resources that
they offer, it’s a great campus all in one area and the tutors are always on hand to
help us with any work that we need help with. I’ve had such a fantastic experience, so
many varied opportunities and I’ve met so many new people.
