Nice footwork
Ping it, ping it
move your head ping ping ping
Looking good
Hello olden
Where have you been the last 30 years?
I’ve never left here
Good to have you back anyway
they’ve missed you down here
Yeah, it’s good to be back
Here have a look
Yeah, that’s Glen Murphy, he could punch
Good-looking geezer in the middle there
Yeah
Richie Burwood he’s a hairdresser now
Here you are, look, Billy Taylor, Jimmy Flint
He was a beautiful, beautiful boxer, counter puncher
Jimmy Flint could punch
Good coach as well Taylor wasn’t he
Yeah, fantastic coach
Amazing, how it all comes back, Sylvester Mittee here
you know what he used to call me
An insignificant white ape
No straight. Never trained you
but he was the greatest matchmaker there ever was never got anyone hurt
I remember old Moughton
he rang err… Burnsy up from the Olympics and said
Guess what I’ve been beat by a 16 year old
Burnsy went ‘No!’ He went ‘Yeah! Some kid called Ray Leonard!’
Sugar! Well that’s nothing be embarrassed about
what an honour to fight Ray Leonard
Yeah, split decision as well
Was it really? He must have bribed the judges
See this guy here, Dabs Edun
he’s President of the club now
Frankie Edwards
you’ve got to remember it’s the 70s and the 80s
where white guys stuck with white guys and black guys stuck with black guys
but the thing about Repton and probably boxing in general is
there’s no colour bar
Everyone’s equal
Yeah everyone’s equal
and you learn that they are your teammates
and you have got to meet people that you would not necessarily meet in the street
because everyone kept themselves to themselves
and so you learn something about a morality, about respect and about discipline
and that will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life
I learned my basics and, my thoughts on life in the gym
everything I learned was in this place
It was in this gaff here
and that’s why probably I will never forget about this club
It’s in me! It’s in me
Here Ray have a look at that picture, that’s an old one mate
I’m about 16 there
I think that’s when we won the F.E.Ds
I boxed a kid called Terry Parker
come out of Hoxton, he had hairy legs
What you thinking of there, I mean 16 years of age
what do you think you’re gonna be doing in 35—40 years time
No idea
What have you been doing the last 30 years then?
That’s a long story
The End
