Hello. My name is Loren Green. I'm an elementary music teacher near Austin, Texas. Today I'm
going to be telling you about how to develop the proper posture for singing. The first
thing you want to do is just relax your body. Your feet are going to be just a little less
than shoulder width apart with one foot slightly in front of the other. You want to make sure
you're leaning a little bit forward so that the most of your weight is on the balls of
your feet. You should have the feeling of buoyancy. That you're almost floating. So
do not lean backwards. Lean forwards. Your shoulders should be back and relaxed and loose.
And your hands should be by your side. When you breathe, your abdomen should be nice and
tall so that you can fully expand that breath. Your chin should be about parallel to the
floor. And if you want to start with your hands on your hips to check your breathing
that's fine. But again let your hands relax by your side. And that's how to stand properly
and have the proper posture for singing.
