For me the issue of conserving the Ganga
in its natural form, as far as Uttarkashi,
is not just an issue; it is my life's mission.
I was brought up according to the Hindu way of thinking.
And I feel that everybody has a destiny.
Three years ago my inner voice told me
that my whole life was only for this purpose.
Either I die for it or if I achieve it,
then I have achieved my life's mission.
As a Hindu I believe
that through austerity and self-discipline
one could generate enough energy to affect the whole universe.
So I decided to do something about it,
which was to go on a fast unto death.
The Ganga was brought down from the heavens to earth,
to wash away people's sins.
We believe that the water of the Ganga is capable
of removing all types of ills.
Physical, mental and spiritual ills.
And this power is not present in any other water.
I want the Ganga to be conserved in its natural state.
