Erik: What did you find most challenging about marketing and promoting your first book?
Cathy: It’s hard to determine what is the best way to market an event. Um, is it going
to small bookstores throughout the country? You know, getting on a plane, stopping at
this city and that city and every city and going to a small, um, gathering at a bookstore.
Or, um, as my publisher suggested, should I just write more, write more blogspots, guest
blog on the other sites and kind of travel in that sense, online. They thought that was
the best idea and most economical idea too because they didn’t want to pay for a tour.
And, most times they don’t pay for author tours anymore, especially for first time authors.
So, I always love doing real, you know, physical events, so I kind of did that. Because I‘ve
always done a lot of cook offs supper clubs, hosting big parties, basically. Co-hosting
with other groups and functions and non-profit organizations and I carried my book around.
And I said yeah, I’m just doing what I usually do but, um, here check out my book.
