Hello everyone, and welcome to the OISE Library. The OISE Library is the largest
educational library in Canada
and it's one of 44 libraries on the University of Toronto campus.
We're here to support the teaching learning and research needs
of the OISE community,
as well as members of the public. We have some terrific resources available to you.
We've got textbooks, curriculum materials, research collections
related to education and psychology, as well as some in-depth specialized materials
specifically related to modern language,
women's educational needs, as well as a vast textbook collection, and curriculum
collection
related to Ontario, going back to the eighteen hundreds. One of our key
resources, though, is we have some terrific people on staff
really creative, talented, and really friendly people so we really welcome you
to come into our Library,
use our resources and come and chat with us. We're really here to support you.
The OISE Library has five floors. We're here on the ground floor at the Service
Desk
and this is where you'll come to borrow and return items, to
renew materials, to place holds, to pay fines, and to find items that are on
course reserves. You can even stop by and check and an iPad or laptop.
We're happy to help you with your research questions, finding scholarly articles for
term papers,
materials for your practicum, using RefWorks, uploading your dissertation to
T-Space,
and help you with your questions about copyright, open access, and scholarly
publishing.
You'll see posters up around the Library and around the building.
Sign up early! They fill up quickly. Some of the other features
you'll find on the Ground Floor include bright open study space,
the new bookshelf, current journals, videos,and DVDs,
computers and a printer. You'll find all of our older journals
downstairs on the Concourse Level, shelved alphabetically.
Let's head up to the Mezzanine Level.
Welcome to the Mezzanine Level. You'll find a variety of great study spaces up here.
We've got some open spaces, as well individual, double,
and group study rooms. Several of the rooms also have height-adjustable tables to
accommodate
accessibility needs. Study rooms are available to
members of the OISE community, so current OISE students, faculty, staff and
alumni who have purchased
OISE Alumni cards. Check out our website for more information,
or drop by the Service Desk to pick up a key.
Let's head up to the Second Floor, where you'll find most of our key
research collections. The Stacks include the OISE Library's
collection of almost 120,000
education-related books and documents. Next to the stacks,
you'll find the Thesis Collection, a collection of theses and dissertations
written by
OISE Masters and PhD students up to November 2009.
More recent dissertations and theses are available online.
The Modern Language Collection was established to meet the professional
needs
of second language educators. The main languages represented are
French, English, Spanish, German, and Italian.
The Franco-Ontarian Collection has over 2,500 volumes of learning materials
related to the teaching of French as a first language,
linguistics and sociolinguistics, and research regarding Franco-Ontarians.
you'll also find the Women's Educational Resource Collection on this floor,
a collection of more than 8,000 books in all areas of womens' studies,
focusing on women and education, feminist studies,
and women in development.
We also have an amazing historical collection. The Ontario
Historical Education Collection contains materials from the mid-19th century to
present,
such as textbooks, exams, and government documents,
that cover elementary, secondary, and teacher education in Ontario.
To set up an appointment to use this unique collection, please ask at the Service
Desk.
if you're looking for a book that isn't in our collection,
we can order it from another university library through interlibrary loan.
We also provide additional support for our distance education students
and for patrons with accessibility needs. Anytime you can't find what you're
looking for,
please drop by the Service Desk and ask. We're happy to help.
Let's head up to the Third Floor. Materials on third floor of the OISE Library support
teaching in the K-12 classroom.
The Curriculum Resources Collection includes
everything from textbooks, to curriculum guidelines, activity kits,
DVDs, lesson plans, teacher's guides,
and even puppets. You'll also find our amazing children's literature collection,
which includes everything from big books for group reading, to graphic novels,
to dual language books for English language learners. The most important
resource we have at our library, though,
is our staff. We're happy to help, so please drop by the Service Desk,
