Paradise Porter Bonz: I’m Bonz from Diamond Bear Brewing
Company, I’m the event coordinator here at Diamond Bear and with me Jesse Melton here.
He’s the brewmaster, the one who creates these wonderful flavors and makes these beers
and makes us all very happy! Jesse: Oh, yeah, today we have our porter
here, our Paradise Porter, and we use our two row brewer’s malt, caramel 40, black
malt and chocolate malt. That gives it a nice, rich, dark malt flavor. If you’re turned
away by dark beers because you think they’re thick or too heavy our porter’s a little
different. It’s a little smoother, not quite as thick. So, it’s an easier-drinking darker
beer compared to some of your normal darker beers.
Bonz: We’ve actually created three different styles of beer (I created one of them). You
can take this porter and you mix it with the Strawberry Blonde and you get the “chocolate
covered strawberry”. And you add it to the Irish Red and you get the “Red Bear”.
But today you can add it to the Presidential IPA and get the “Hoppy Bear”. So, we’ve
had a lot of fun doing the mixed drink with the porter, as well.
You can also mix it with ice cream, it makes a great float. Sue Melton, one of our owners,
decided that she could make a porter float with sliced strawberries and mint leaves.
You can find that on our Facebook page, as well.
This porter’s great. It’s a fantastic dessert beer, believe it or not. People say,
“What’s a dessert beer?” Well, it goes great with chocolate, it goes fantastic with
cheese cake. One place we did a dinner at used bacon. They took big slab bacon and dipped
it in chocolate gnocchi and slivered almonds and it was AMAZING with the porter. Cheers
to that! You can find it at a lot of your grocery stores
around town. They kind of switch out. Krogers will have the Paradise Porter one day and
they’ll have our seasonal the next. They’ve always got our Pale Ale in there. Just about
every liquor store in town that carries good, craft beer will have our Paradise Porter in
bottles there. Of course, it’s available here at the brewery, as well, and it’s available
year round, so it’s always here.
