In the third part of ”the journey is the destination " you will follow Boras Baskets continuing rampage
during the regular season. And so you get to meet some of the profiles a little closer.
Of course, the episode is also filled with highlights from the games.
How did the players think after nine straight wins ?
How long would they keep the suite ?
What was really Basketball League record for number of wins in a row?
For Borås Basket was to change on as little as possible
Continue to train really hard
And getting a little better every day.
Welcome to " The journey is the destination " - the story about Boras Baskets season in the Basketball League 2013-2014.
After the ninth game of the regular season, the one against Solna Vikings away ,
stood Borås Basket of nine wins and zero losses.
The team from Västra Götaland obviously topped the Basketball league's table in style.
Now we had to continue the same way.
And they did it against EcoÖrebro when Roope Ahonen
led the way through a hundred percent shooting in the first half.
At home against Jämtland. When Roope Ahonen put 20 points
And Chris McKnight had mighty 26 points and 16 rebounds .
And then home against Nässjö, then Borås third match in a row won by 20 points margin .
In addition to Boras Baskets first visit in new and fresh Luleå Energy Arena
and match against LF Basket when Roope Ahonen won praise for his defense games afterwards.
Swedish guard- defender has much to learn by Roope Ahonen , LF coach Fredrik Joulamo acclaimed.
Time to face Sundsvall Dragon - A team that is always a tough opponent.
It was the Dragons who started best and had an early lead . But a spirited intrusion by Henrik Carlsson did good for Borås.
Then JJ Miller followed up with 22 points before halftime.
At halftime we knew what we had to do . We knew what we were doing wrong .
And then we had to come out and fix it , and that's what we did . So it was all about our defense in
the third quarterback . And that's what pushed us trough to win . They were making shots all game
Tough shots, and They were hitting a Lot. We toughed it out and won the game . "
Home against Uppsala Mike Palm took the lead with 24 points and 13 rebounds .
And JJ Miller was as usual incredible .
I'm here with JJ Miller undefeated through Christmas . How do you feel ? It feels awesome;
it really does . Especially to win against a quality team the way we did tonight . I think
we controlled the game for the entire 40 minutes . And , yeah man , we're 15-0
With the win against Sundsvall Borås Basket were then undefeated up until the Christmas break .
Just three days after Christmas a game against Solna Vikings waited. But first it was necessary to preserve the shape for two weeks.
If the first match in Solna was quite easy , this would become more difficult .
It did not go well for Borås .
With 10 minutes left of the match Solna led with 19 points .
Travelling Borås fans began to give up.
Then the team's pickup began. 10 points each from JJ Miller and Roope Ahonen.
8 points from Mike Palm and 6 points and a lot of offensive rebounds by Chris McKnight
came in the fourth period. Suddenly
Suddenly Borås was victorious , for the 16th consecutive time.
Borås against EcoÖrebro was beforehand no audience match. But the game was well timed ,
Borås residents had time off from work and school and wanted nothing more than to be entertained.
2940 people came to Boråshallen . They got to see an exciting match and Borås
was able to get a win when they battled out their opponents in the third quarter after Chris McKnight staged an incredible run.
. Routine, will , interactions , good defense and hot shooting was more than Örebro could manage.
2,940 people were here and watched the game today.
I can not believe it's true, how did you feel when you saw all the people pouring in ?
I thought it was absolutely incredible. It was fantastic to play also .
I thought it was going to be a big crowd, but not this much, I really did not.
I’ve been on this driveway a lot, put many hours of my time here.
I started playing here 8-10 years ago. So that’s most of my career.
To have a basket available all the time is very valuable. Dad and mom have played basketball themselves
o they instructed me… they taught me a lot.
They told me what I needed to do in order to succeed. At the same time
it wasn’t too serious back then. They showed me how to practice, how to shoot and things like that.
Overall, if i put all the hours and minutes together it must be tousands.
So far it’s been really great. I can’t complain about anything at all.
We’re playing well, we have great chemistry, everything flows like it’s supposed to.
We have good practices, I feel great, in harmony.
I think the other players do too.
We have very defined roles on this team. Which means
we know who should shoot, who should take care of rebounding, and who puts extra effort in on the defensive side.
Together we are a very strong unit. We are complete as a team.
The way it looks now it doesn’t feel like any team can stop us.
At the same time I know that there are other great teams out there.
And on one lucky day they can be better than us. I know that.
With 17 consecutive wins in the backpack Borås Basket traveled to Södertalje for a showdown with Kings.
No one had forgotten how Borås had won the first encounter at the very last second of the game.
Kings were now looking for revenge. On social media Martin Pahlmblad talked about
despite the loss in October Kings were the better team .
The whole thing was going to develop into a war.
I expected a supergame. 81 00:09:16,700 --> 00:09:21,900 These are the two best teams, a record is in the making, but actually I am a little bit disappointed
after two quarters. I like when it is a war on the floor.
I can tell that a lot is on the line and there are a lot of emotions showing.
I think both teams are nervous. I’ve said that Kings will win.
Maybe this isn’t the right place to say something like that? But I guess I’ll havet o stick with it. .
Everything was settled again in the closing seconds , but from the free throw line this time .
Mike Palm and Roope Ahonen scored some very good points and the margin of victory for Borås was two points.
In the away game against Jämtland there was a chance for Borås to manage a new record.
19 wins in a row would be the best of all time in the basketball league .
With hundred percent shooting in the first period they took a small lead.
And when JJ Miller hooked in 40-48 at half-time signal everything felt really good.
And it got better. Jämtland was a step behind when Borås managed to *** the victory and set a new record.
After the record was set , the players could take a breather. But the talking continued .
Now , it was about how long the amazing suite could last.
20 matches were within reach. Next match was at home, against Norrkoping Dolphins .
Borås Basket attracted yet again a large audience. And those who were there seemed to enjoy watching Borås win again.
On January 17th , it was time for the thord derby of the season against Nässjö.
Taylor Brown and Alexander Lindqvist made ??sure that the home team opened the game with a shock.
Nässjö's defense allowed only 29 points for Borås the first half.
The disadvantage was ten points at half-time and on social media aired doubts.
But Borås Basket had come back from bigger sub- modes than that, in significantly less time than 20 minutes.
Just six minutes into the third period Borås had both catched up to and passed Nässjö.
In the end Borås starters did there job and secured the 21st straight win .
He likes it here . He told me That the team is like family. He likes the people.
They have treated him well , the team has treated him well , the coaches , he really enjoys it.
Makin chicken parmesan ... He picked that up from me. I taught him how to cook.
Too much chicken ? No. . No , he will never get too much chicken .
He loves it . When he comes home from being here his first meal is fried chicken .
I'll have to fry him chicken .
How long we can keep it going ? Who knows ? If we keep playing like we are now , it's tough
to say. To me the only team That can stop us is ourselves .
We are our own worst enemy .
When we get away from what we like to do , that'sa When things start going south for us .
The love I've got for my teammates ... I've been here , this is my fourth season playing here .
And a lot of the core guys that were here When I came are still around .
So the love goes through the roof . In Consider these guys my brothers .
This is like my second family .
You know , when i think about it . and Sweden is like my second home , here in Borås.
I'll go to war with these guys. If I need something They are there, on or off the court .
We're just one big happy family , with coach Pat at the head . So it 's all good .
What keeps me sing up and coming back ? I've been treated so well , here in Borås.
The comeback Because The organization is very professional, and coach Pat he's a players coach.
I was here when we only had 300-400 people at the games, and seen That and now coming to When
we're having over 2000 every game . It's great . Being a part of That is something I'm going
to be able to look back on when I'm done playing basketball. I got my start here .
I was part of Bringing the team up out of the bottom half of the league to being in the top half
of the league , you know , number one , number two . It's a great feel , When you feel comfortable,
and you're treated right it's hard to go .
On to the next one against LF. And this would be the night when Roope Ahonens streak would end.
On the 44th free throw of the streak. But Borås was victorious never the less.
The Seansons second game away against Sundsvall could be viewed at Harrys in Borås.
It was a party atmosphere as over a hundred fans gatherd.
But this would be where the winnig streak would end.
It ended at 22 staight games – This will be a hard record to break.
Tuesday after the first loss the so called half way meeting for the season was held.
This was thrown with a breakfast at the Grand Hotel with sponsors invited.
The big news was that day was that our star JJ Miller had resigned with the club
and this news was met with huge applause!
With the streak broken there was no longer any pressure as the team traveld to Uppsala.
The Game was Uppsalas sponsor game and the arena was filled with 2834 crazy fans.
Borås was good the only problem was that Uppsala was better.
Borås took the first anslaut from Uppsala but with Uppsala hitting all their shoots in the crucial minutes.
Five minutes just wasnt enough, the team had to accept their second loss of the season
They would have to regroup and try again at our own Sponsor game two days later.
The basketball Festival in Boråshallen would be one with high expectations. Over 300 Sponsors would be involved.
The club had a chance to pull in a lot of money. The opponent Södertälje.
And the Kings where # 2 in the standings behind Borås didnt hurt and the house was packed.
All 3000 tickets were sold. But the game was exactly how Södertälje wanted it, slow and low scoring!
Borås had a chance at the end but Södertälje answered with some big shots at opportune times.
62-74 meant the third straight loss for Borås and that ment there was a new leader in the standings, Södertälje.
Borås had played great this season and has set a new record
For games won in a row, 22 of them. And now they had also felt defeat, three games in a row.
Some unlucky breaks have come a foot and the rest of the games this season will be most interesting.
Can Borps get going again, and get back into first place?
Or will Tälje just be to much?
The journey towards the goal has reached its halfway point and we need to remember that for Borås Basket the journey IS the goal.
Follow the behind the scenes look all the way, all season.
