For most Afghan women you would have to say, that although there have been
improvments on paper, in the Constitution and International treaties,
for most Afghan women life has stayed
the same and for a very great number life has gotten much worse.
The situation for women today in the Poshunaries is actually worse than it was
during the Taliban time. The reason is because, under the Taliban, women were kept
in Burkas and in their homes, away from education.
Today the say situation persists, they are kept in Burkas, in homes away from
education but on top of that they're also living in a warzone. And women suffer,
disproportionately suffer the affects of war and so the majority
of civilian casualties have been women. So women that I talk to in these areas often
say that they actually wish the Taliban were back in power
because eventhough their lives were a prison then, they at least
were kept free from bombs or from house raids.
