It's one of, um, a part of a larger effort to improve retention in the school and one
of the subcommittees that formed was the teaching and learning subcommittee and this teach to
retain initiative came out of that work. It's designed to improve teaching performance and
encourage teachers to adopt best practices in order to try to help students stay in school.
The climate and culture that you establish in your classroom, how to create an inclusive
classroom, how to handle diversity within your classroom, in a sensitive way. Diversity
is including things like first generation college students. Um, what is a red flag and
noticing red flags and knowing how to intervene with students in a timely way so that they
have a chance to correct the problems before they get so serious that its almost impossible.
Maybe very specific things like how to use early alert or what are referal sources that
are available to get students connected to important resources, both in the college and
eventually in the community, how to embed college success strategies in all the curriculums.
I mean, there's many more too, we probably got a list of already 40 or 50 different potential
topics, and those are some of them.
There is a retention website that you can go to and the CETL--the Center for Excellence
in Teaching and Learning website will have a link to a lot of this activity too.
