This technology took years to master.
It’s OMEGA Ceragold™:
a material that allows the growth and bonding
of 18k gold and ceramic.
The process begins with the formation of ceramic rings
from zirconium oxide and binders.
When these have been stage heated to a smouldering 1400° Celsius
they are six times as hard as stainless steel.
The rings are then machined with diamond tools
to obtain their precise geometry.
The diving scale is engraved on the top surface of the rings
using a high performance laser.
In a clean room,
a conductive layer is deposited on the top surface
and in the engraved cavities.
This allows the growth of a gold layer during the electroforming process.
The now conductive ceramic rings are placed on a rack
and submerged in a gold electrolytic bath for 48 hours.
A thick layer of 18k red gold is formed,
that coats the rings’ top surface.
When the rings are extracted from the bath,
the excess gold is removed to reveal the original ceramic surface
leaving a solid gold layer in the diving scale.
The result is a dramatic contrast between the polished ceramic material
and the stunning brushed 18k red gold
and it’s absolutely smooth to the touch.
The OMEGA Ceragold™ bezel is as striking as it is innovative.
You would expect nothing less from OMEGA.
