Hey ! We are at the Far Beyond Studio
for recording the new Wheelfall's album : Interzone.
There is a story following all the tracks
from the begining to the end
and there will be some artworks
which will fit each song of the album
and work like a comic book.
Initially, it's a talk with the band's members, because we're friends...
and I quickly get their world
strongly influenced by Z Movies
based on artworks...
They came to me with a super-simple commission for their first EP,
a desert, one cactus, one big car and a chick
...so we've done a thing like that.
And now, it's evolving for the upcoming album
and it's becoming something more scenarised
but always with a very desertic graphic world.
We are higly influenced by fantastic, horror movies
B Movies and all that stuff
we can see it on Interzone.
Yeah, from the beginning, we played on this.
It's almost a real movie
we wanted to create, but on an album
Besides that, that's why we called Terry
for making artworks for each song,
to really have a graphic representation
of what we want to tell in the song
You'll can see that on the album's package.
We wanted to focus the story on a "real" fact, as a base,
trying to have something not totally imaginary :
the 1947 Cave Creek's events,
with the discovery of a crashed OVNI
... It is "supposed" to be proved.
We based our story on this fact
to tell our fiction
In summary,
it's about a sort of asteroid,
an object which fell from sky
near to Cave Creek (Arizona, USA),
which create a sort of permanent sand mist
As soon as people come in contact with it
They become weird, they opperate a transformation.
The lyrics tell the story of one and only character
and we follow his transformation which comes from inside.
(A sort of mind-expanding transe... ...)
(Isn't it beautiful ?)
How have we met ourselves...
I think...yes it was during an astral travel
You concentrate, you go out of your body,
and I think they were playing at Quai son (Nancy)
I said to myself : "I'm going to see what's going on there"
you can take the opportunity to travel
you can do anything you want
You go out, and then you can move around
No one can see you
you can even go out naked...
We shared the stage, with one of my bands : Slapback
It's at this moment I discovered their music
and I really like that
For a young band, I found that
their songs are very matured.
Afterwards, we met ourselves,
and they came to record a first demo album here.
Wheelfall, it's like a family...
No ! Like a couple !
It's a very conceptual band
It's not one another music band
There are a lot of cinematographic references
Studio recording is an experience to live... together
It helps us drawned together, sure
We are very close to the others, in Wheelfall
I think It's going to make the band even more "solid"
Stoner rock is highly influenced by Sci-Fi
It always have been in relation with that...
And with Wheelfall, we decided, even before I joined the band,
we decided to totally play on this sci-fi aspect
I saw one of their shows, I was not totally in stoner rock,
and I begun listening to classic stoner rock bands.
At the show, I find them very cool, and
in my head, I thought :
"If the drummer leaves the band, it's the band I need", you know...
Then, 2 month later,
they were a very young band, so I didn't have so much hope
I saw on their myspace that the drummer left the band, you know..
We situate us in Stoner Rock,
with a big touch of Doom Metal...
- We love Black Sabbath too.. - Right...
So... Black Sab',
A lot of 70's bands... like Free for example,
More recently, Kyuss, it's obvious,
And Goatsnake...
THE influence. The BIG influence.
