Hello, Ujiie here.
Look at these units all lined up here, the E-Mu rack series.
Maybe a lot of you are fans of these.
I know I am. I love mine!
I'd like to demo them for you.
So, let's start with the first one.
The one I'm playing now is this one on top, the Proteus 2000.
The ones below are silent for now.
The Proteus 2000 is what we'll start out with.
As you can see on the screen here,
we've got Keyboard Group 1,
a patch called And Voice.
Well, the Keyboard Group 1
is mostly acoustic piano sounds.
If we put the cursor on the Group 1 part,
move it over here, and then we can choose
different sounds from that group.
Some very nostalgic sounds here.
These sounds here were used quite a alot!
Such a nice nostalgic sound!
Ok, so Keyboard Group 2,
has electric pianos like Rhodes or Wurlitzer.
Add tremolo via the mod wheel.
Let's see what variations of sounds we have here.
Yeah, the popular FM sounds from the era are here too.
Sounds good!
It sounds goooood!
Ok, let's go on to other groups.
Hmm, let's see.
How about this?
You've got beats.
And arpeggios too.
Lots of different sounds.
The concept behind the Proteus 2000,
is one almighty unit that can be used across all genres.
It made a huge impact back in the day.
Brass next.
That one is layered with strings.
There's more though.
On to another group.
Bass.
Acoustic.
Bass 1 is acoustic, and Bass 2 is...
Electric Bass. Bass 3 is Synth Bass.
Now, obviously, as you can see,
there are knobs and buttons here.
So you can make and edit sounds.
That's great!
AND!!!
Another bass group.
Lots of good bass sound variations. Guitar next.
Ohhh that sounds good!
A wah-wah thing.
Electric Guitar too.
Sounds excellent!
Sounds like cutting.
This is really interesting!
These kinds of guitar sounds.
Nice. Even now this is cool.
Orchestra hit.
Orchestra hits...
They were SO widely used.
Ok, next is Keyboard Group 3, Organs?
Wow, that's great. What a crisp sound!
Sounds good. Keyboard 4, Clavinet.
Sounds good!
Lots of variations.
Uhh, Drum Kits.
A variety of drum kits here.
Yeah, sounds nice.
There are two effects processors inside,
for some real cutting-edge sound programming.
Next, Leads.
Yeah, good sounds. Next, Noise.
That's neat.
You could use these as as sound effects.
Hehe, very nice! Uh...
Synth Brass, I think.
Yeah, nice. Orchestral sounds maybe?
I think that's where we are now.
Pads.
Very nice.
Percussion.
They even included bell tree sounds.
These are very good.
Scratches!
Lots of different ones spread across the keyboard.
Wow this is crazy!
WOW! Sound Effects.
Wow, these sounds really stir the imagination!
Feel like I'm in the jungle!
Fantastic!
E-Mu's strings are truly exceptional!
Let's give this more reverb.
Superb!
Next, Synthesizer.
"OB-X Saws"
This one uses waveforms from the Oberheim OB-X.
Sounds good!
Mmm. Very good!
Lots of different sounds.. Ah! I used this choir sound a lot!
Excellent!
The waveform here is from an ARP.
Very raw bass sounds and so on.
CZ!
Tons of different things in here!
Raw waveforms there for you to use to cook up your own sounds.
That's how I see it.
Wind instruments.
That's a nice sax.
As you can see, LOTS of different sounds.
For any kind of genre,
there are lots of sounds you can use.
The concept was 'Use this one unit to cover all of your needs!'
The Proteus 2000.
Very well designed. Sounds fresh even now. Great!
