Rebecca: Hi, I'm Rebecca and this is Craig from the Sunglass fix. Today, Craig is going
to show me how to remove lenses from metal frame sunglasses and then how to install replacement
lenses in my perv aviators. Craig: The first thing you wanna do when you
working on metal frames is you wanna make sure you got a nice working area that you
usually got a cloth lie down so if any components fall you don't lose them ok. Second when
you wanna examine your rims most metal frames are design, this is screw that's holding
the bottom portion of the frame from the top portion of the frame. In this situation, with
this Oakley square wires, the screw is right next to the hinge on the top side of
the frame. Rebecca: I can see Craig with this perv aviator
that the screw is actually on the underside. Craig: Yeah, probably find the most metal
frames sunglasses that the underside that the sunglasses near the hinge or near the
nose is where the screw is located. A third type that we've seen is like this wrong
zipper where they actually have no screw is whatsoever. And a tags here situation with
your sunglasses you don't have screw that separates the rim, you probably better off
watching our alternative video on plastic frames, it's much more applicable to how
you get the lenses in and out of those frames. So the next thing you wanna do Rebecca is
you wanna check out what sort of screw driver you gonna need. You know, in situation with
these classes, I need a Philips head. Rebecca: and I can see that I actually need
a flat head screw driver. Craig: Alright, so if you don't have the
screw driver like this at home, just you can pick 'em up from a hardware store or electronics
store in your area. Which we gonna do next is getting firm grip of your sunglasses right
near the screw. Rebecca: Okay,
Craig: like such, and then basically ensure that your screw drivers inserted firmly in
to the screw and you gotta get hold and you gotta have 3 one half turns to release it,
one half, two half, three half. Rebecca: Okay, like this.. one, two, three
Craig: that's correct. So what we're basically trying to do is to trying to loosen the frame
but not necessarily have come apart if it's come apart that's fine but we don't wanna
be lose its screw component that's why we're working on a nice surface like this. So if
anything falls out that it is bounce over the place and you lose its screws. So now
that we've gotta lose you could see that it is lose what you want to do is you wanna
grab the rim some place where probably you got the most flexibility. Grab the rim; put
your index finger under and your thumb on the top of the rim some place. Close that
same position; you wanna put your other hand with your index finger under and your thumb
on top. You're basically tag on the rim and twist out the lens.
Rebecca: Okay. Ah, It came out so easily. Craig: yeah and if it doesn't you know you
may need to loosen the frame just a tiny bit more. go have and turn it a time.
Rebecca: Fantastic. So now that we've removed the lenses, what do we have that you show
me how I install my replacement lens. Craig: Yeah sure. Ah for the most part, you
know you wanna hold your frame like this away from you.
Rebecca: Okay. Craig: Grab your replacement lens, yeah ensure
you're still, we're still loose here, we're still have the frame loosen but in
every type that if you still wanna 3 one half turns loose. Install the arm portion of the
lens first, so enter the rim right where the arm portion is.
Rebecca: down here? Craig: yeah down there that's correct. And
work the lens all the way round into the rim. Sometimes it'll go completely in without
any sort of pressure but if you get the situation of those tiny bit left like that, support
the frame with your two index fingers and patch right on that portion, the frame, just
to make sure that they goes right on the place. If it's not go in the place, you may need
it to loosen another half turn step and try it again. For what to do is in place like
this, and then you gonna go head and tighten the screws.
Rebecca: okay Craig: 1, 2,3. And you wanna go snag you don't
wanna over tighten, coz if you over tighten, the ah..You could snap, stripped the screw
head or you if you snap off the head in a worst case scenario.
Rebecca: Okay. Craig: And the sunglass fix, what we do, we
never, we have installed, we also this put a tiny bit of clear nail polish do this basically
just dab it on top of the screw that we just undone or maybe in your hinge screw if necessary.
What does it basically holds the screws in place for years to come. Okay. Want final
safety check that we always recommend after installed is to check your lens one more last
time make sure that it's completely installed in the rim no portion is popped out the front.
I would push on the lens holding the frame to support to make sure you cannot push out
lens through. Support it won't go through to your eyes. Okay. Ah so grab the arms, twist
it, push the frame a bit, make sure they don't pop out.
Rebecca: uhh- hmmm. Craig: Okay, and lastly before you gonna need
to do at anyhow, give them a good clean, you may hand of them and the lens should stay
in and not basically shows as really nice. Good fit on your sunglasses. So, that's
pretty much it. Once it's done. Rebecca: Prefect Craig thank you so much,
