Hi,Vickie Siculiano here from Say WOW Marketing, helping you with better, smarter online marketing
strategies. So images on the web can generate a ton of traffic for you just from search
engines. So there are ways you can optimize those files before you upload them to the
web so I'm going to show you four easy ways to do this in this video. So stay tuned. Ok
so you might be spending hours crafting the perfect post finding the best pictures, actually
learning how to take the best pictures you can to get most engagement for your social
media. So here are four ways that you can optimize those images for the web to be found
more. Ok the first one is your file name. Ok you want to take a look at what's already
out there on the web for those type of pictures. Someone already did their homework, now you're
going to do yours. So just do a quick google search and find out what images come up on
google for those keyword phrases. Ok, so say you're looking for a picture of a barnyard.
I don't know why I chose that word, I just want to say. So you look up barnyard image
and you see what comes up, and you see what the name of that file name is, So you take
a look and see how they named the tile. Then you kind of copy or model that framework for
your own filename so that you know that guess what, you're going to come up first in google
search for your images too ok? So the next one is alt text. You want to make sure that
you also apply alt text to your images. Now if you're not too sure how to do this, I'm
going to show you how to do this in an upcoming video, but on wordpress it's really really
simple to add alt text, which is the text that search engines come up with when they
see your image. So when a spider comes to your website, it hits your image and that
text bounces back so they know that that image is relevant when someone is coming up with
a search for that keyword phrase. Ok so you have captions, are one of the most read pieces
of content that you can have on your posts and also on your images. So if you have albums
of images up there on the webm whether it's flick, it's on your website, it's on facebook,
ok, so take time to just put some copy in the captions portion of your images that's
going to really help you. Ok and your file size is also very important. Make sure that
you don't upload images that are too too large. I usually like to keep my web files 1240 and
under for the web so that's the long part of the image is no longer than 1240. If you
want, in wordpress you can also have the option to have the picture appear as a thumbnail,
small, medium or large and then it reopens when you click on it into a different window
as a large image. So if you want people to see your images right there and also see the
search engines picking them up make sure your file sizes are not too large. Ok, so you've
got the file name, you've got your alt text, your captions and your file sizes. So that's
four easy ways that you can optimize your images for SEO on the web. So if you want
