Amateur video captures the aftermath of the car crash in Austin, Texas that left at least
two people dead and dozens injured at the South by Southwest festival.
And hits multiple people. South by Southwest 2014. Unfortunate, very sad.
The accident occurred when a suspected drunk driver fled from police and crashed through
the barricades set up for the festival.
Well we were waiting to get to into the show and we were like around on the side and all
of a sudden this car came like driving through hit like ten people.
Probably going like 70 miles per hour. He just took off, hit all these people right
here. I think those people are dead honestly and a cop chased it and now all the cops are here.
Austin police reported that a man and a woman have been listed as dead, and 23 other have
been injured, five of them critically. The amateur footage, shot five to ten minutes after the
accident shows people still lying in the streets with bystanders and paramedics trying to help them.
I looked to the side and I saw a gray, looked like a Suburu like a 90-something Suburu and
it just kept, rolled over some people and littered it all the way down and I just remember
seeing people bouncing off of the street all of the way rolling downtown past tenth and
that's when those cops were coming through and helicopter chasing them and everybody
was just scattered. And the cops came through checking as they went by.
Police said the driver struck a taxi cab before fleeing his vehicle on foot. Officers were
able to take him into custody after subduing him with a stun gun. The man faces two counts
of capital *** and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.
