I'm Annie. I'm 16.
I'm from Washington, DC,
and I'm here because of
drug use
and basically
self-medication and self-destructive behaviors.
I've learned a lot
at WinGate. I've been here for seven weeks today.
I've learned a lot about myself and I've learned a lot about
doing stuff for others and not being so concerned with yourself and being selfless and
going out of your way to
really attain goals for yourself, but
doing stuff for others along the way. I've learned that,
I've learned about codependency, I've learned about
drug use and habits that drug users have. I've learned a lot
about myself. I've learned
that motivation is a really difficult thing for me to conquer.
I've had
low motivation since I was
at home.
And when I came here it was hard for me to
get in to the groove of
camp chores and things.
It just became a challenge to me that I came to overcome while I was here and to really get moving and get motivated
was something I overcome here at WinGate.
My advice for future WinGate students would be
really get involved, really get to know
the girls
and/or whoever
your peers are.
Don't be afraid of the dirt. Instructor: (Laughs) What's been one of the
challenges you've had out here?
It's been really hard for me to do the hikes.
The hikes are really hard, but once you feel, it's like in life; once you get over something
really challenging for you,
you feel so much better that you did it instead of avoiding it.
And I've had trouble with avoidance
at home and I've learned that
doing things instead of
avoiding them
really makes a difference, instead of
just going out of your way to not do things.
And once you finish things you feel so much better.
Instructor: Awesome. That is great. Thank you so much, Annie. We appreciate your
insight sharing with us. Thank you. Annie: Thank you!
